'Fully tuned' Toyota GR Yaris coming to Tokyo Auto Salon 2022

MANILA: Toyota's performance arm Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) will showcase its cars — including what the carmaker described as a "fully tuned" version of the GR Yaris — at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022. 

The standard GR Yaris is powered by a 1.6-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which generates 268hp and 300Nm of torque. The GR Yaris' six-speed manual is linked to a World Rally Championship-derived GR Four four-wheel drive system. 

At the Tokyo Auto Salon 2022, TGR will also bring the GR GT3 Concept. In a release, Toyota said the GR GT3 is a "racing-dedicated concept car that incorporates the knowledge and refined technologies TGR has gained in the field of motorsports." 

TGR is participating in motorsports series such as the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). 

TGR will also present its GR010 Hybrid, which won all races in the Hypercar class of the WEC in 2021. Cars from domestic and international competitions such as the Super GT, Japanese Super Formula, and Japanese Rally Championship will be exhibited.

Several pieces for the GR Heritage Parts will also be shown. GR Heritage Parts creates parts for classic Toyota cars such as the previous generations of the Supra. 

The Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 will be an exhibition for customized cars, which will be held at the Makuhari Messe, Chiba City, Japan for three days from January 14 to January 16, 2022. 

"The TGR booth will be operated with the utmost care to prevent the spread of (COVID-19)," Toyota added in a release.
