Geely PH to update Okavango?
LTO document identifies vehicle as ‘hybrid’

MANILA: Geely Motor Philippines (GMP) — now under the management of Geely Automotive International Corporation — is set to unveil a new model in the country soon and we believe that it will be an updated version of the Okavango.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What's new with the Geely Okavango Elite?
The newest offering will have an updated grille design. What powers the Geely Okavango Elite?
The sport utility vehicle is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with variable valve timing system that is mated to an electric motor with a lithium-ion battery.Such a guess was based on an invitation from the Chinese automaker’s local arm that showed two models: one of which is likely the EX5 (revealed last February) and the other a familiar fascia that wears a different grille pattern.

Upon the Land Transportation Office’s homologation records, Geely’s distributor in the country will bring in the Okavango Elite.
Vehicle specifications
Based on the documents, the Geely Okavango Elite tapes in at:
Overall dimensions (length, width, height, in millimeters [mm>) |
4,835 x 1,900 x 1,785 |
Wheelbase (in mm) |
2,815 |
Ground clearance (in mm) |
194 |
The seven-seater sport utility vehicle has a gross weight of 2,295 kilograms and sits on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/55 tires.

It will likely wear a green plate once its retailed in the Philippines as it has been considered a hybrid vehicle.
Upon checking the brand’s local website, the Geely Okavango Elite is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with variable valve timing system. It is mated to an electric motor that comes with a lithium-ion battery. This is matched with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.
The said powertrain — which meets Euro V emission standards — can dish out:
- Maximum output (in horsepower): 187
- Peak torque (in Newton-meters): 300
Per LTO, the vehicle can run as fast as 190 kilometers per hour.

Further, the Geely Okavango Elite will also be formally offered to the local market with the following technologies:
- Traction and stability control
- Hill start assist
- Reverse camera
- Rear parking sensors
- Cruise control
- Tire pressure monitoring system
- Smart keyless entry with remote start and push button ignition
- Speed-sensing central locking system
With this, Zigwheels Philippines has a hunch that its price range is around P1.3 million.
Notably, Geely Philippines seems to have removed the Geely Okavango’s Comfort, Urban, and Urban Plus trims on its website, which could mean that the Elite might be retailed as the nameplate’s sole option.
