Mazda Philippines recalls MX-5
MANILA: An issue regarding the Transmission Control Module, in short TCM, has forced Mazda Philippines to recall the MX-5. The units recalled are said to be manufactured between the year 2016 and 2019.
Mazda has said that the affected models might face some electrical noise or interference. This interference can cause a sudden and unwanted downshift which will lead to the deceleration of the vehicle.
The good news, however, is that no parts in the car need to be replaced and the fix is just a software update. Mazda dealers have already been issued with a software fix for reprogramming the TCU by Bermaz Auto Philippines,
the official distributor of Mazda in the country. The Mazda dealers across the Philippines will contact the affected customers and request them to get the software update. Note that the issue is limited to the automatic transmission only.
The Mazda MX-5 is powered by a 2.0-litre four-pot DOHC gas-fed motor producing 160 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 200 Nm. A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic are the available transmission options. The car rides on 17-inch wheels clothed with 205/45 R17 tyres.
The MX-5 is also equipped with safety features like airbags, ABS, EBD, and VSC among others. The software update to fix the transmission issue will take no longer than an hour. So, if you’ve got an MX-5, reach out to the nearest Mazda dealership and update your TCM firmware as soon as possible.
