Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross to be revealed at Geneva Auto Show
MANILA: We have heard about Mitsubishi XM Crossover Concept multiple times and now the brand has finally given it a name. Yes, the Japanese automaker will call its compact SUV Eclipse Cross. The name has been taken from the American spec coupe, Eclipse, which was first introduced in 1989. The addition of ‘Cross’ makes the difference. Along with the confirmation on the name, the company has also released a teaser of its upcoming car.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be revealed at the upcoming 2017 Geneva Auto Show and is expected to gain significant attention from the spectators. After collaborating with Renault-Nissan alliance, one of the major launches was 2017 Grand Lancer and the Eclipse Cross will be the next. It is expected that the upcoming compact SUV will first go on sale in the US by the end of this year. It will be followed by its launch in other markets.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be positioned between ASX and Pajero Sport and will be competing against the likes of Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, as well as Skoda Yeti (not in the Philippines). Just like the recently introduced 2017 Mitsubishi ASX, the Eclipse Cross will also feature the brand’s Dynamic Shield design language. This has been also highlighted by the automaker in the teaser images.
Will it come to the Philippines?
The automaker showcased the XM Crossover Concept at the last year’s PIMS. Thus, we expect that Mitsubishi will not miss out on our market. However, the exact launch date is hard to predict at this time. Currently, Mitsubishi is working on to improve the position of its existing lineup in the country and once it gets a significant hold on the market, it will further expand its reach in other segments.
Let’s see what Mitsubishi Philippines has in its store for us. We hope to see the updated lineup of the company soon in the country. Do let us know your thoughts on the upcoming Eclipse Cross.
