Mitsubishi starts selling Xforce HEV in Indonesia, is PH next?

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has started selling the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) version of the Xforce in Indonesia—the first of its kind to be produced there.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where will the Mitsubishi Xforce for Indonesia be made?

The Indo-spec Mitsubishi Xforce will be made in-country by PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia.
  • What are the available variants of the Philippine-spec Mitsubishi Xforce?

The Philippine-spec Mitsubishi Xforce is available as the entry-level GLX, GLS, and the top-spec GT.
  • In a statement, the Japanese automaker shared that the compact sport utility vehicle’s production will be handled by PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia, the company's production hub in the country.

Additionally, the newest offering set another milestone as it comes as the marque’s first-ever HEV in the “Emerald of the Equator.”

Per Mitsubishi, the model’s appeal was “further enhanced” through higher fuel efficiency, eco-friendliness, and powerful acceleration by adopting a system derived from Mitsubishi Motors' renowned plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) technology.

"Despite its hybrid-electric powertrain, the Xforce HEV enables EV driving powered primarily by the motor, combining eco-friendliness with the powerful and smooth driving experience unique to electrified vehicles," MMC President and Chief Operating Officer Keisuke Kishiura was quoted as saying.

"Together with Mitsubishi Motors' distinctive range of drive modes, this model will offer safe, secure, and comfortable mobility across a wide variety of weather and road conditions, making daily drives more enjoyable,” he added.

    Other stories:

The Mitsubishi Xforce’s hybrid iteration kept the internal combustion engine version’s drivetrain niceties for the HEV kind. These include  all-wheel-control technologies such as the active yaw control to help out its front-wheel-drive system. These portions also complement its selectable EV modes to meet various driving needs.

Being a country that also employs left-hand-drive configuration on vehicles, having the five-seater electrified crossover in the Philippines will really not come as a surprise since the model has received much appreciation here too. After all, the Philippines is a highly-important market for Mitsubishi globally.

To recall, the Mitsubishi Xforce was launched in Indonesia in November 2023 and had expanded to other ASEAN markets namely Vietnam and the Philippines. It is also present in Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa, becoming one of Mitsubishi Motors' key global strategic models, with sales growing across regions.

Recently, the Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation expanded its Xforce stable by unveiling the GLX trim recently—providing buyers a more accessible option.

Priced at P1.119 million, the aforementioned trim is slotted below the GLS and GT options, which can be had for P1.299 million and P1.661 million, respectively.

Amid the difference in pricing, all three options are equipped with an in-line four double overhead cam, naturally-aspirated, 1.5-liter gasoline-fed mill with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control system paired with a continuously variable transmission.

This engine setup has the capacity to deliver:

    Maximum output (in horsepower)

    104

    Peak torque (in Newton-meters)

    141

Meanwhile, the nameplate’s mid- and top-of-the-line variations have these notable portions:
