Mitsubishi Triton, Xforce bag iF Design Award 2024

MANILA: The Mitsubishi Triton and the Xforce have won the iF Design Award 2024 in the product design discipline, the Japanese carmaker announced.

Per Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, the Triton — which replaced the Strada nameplate here in the Philippines — and the Xforce — reportedly arriving in the country sometime in June 2024 — faced tough competition against some 11,000 entries submitted from 72 countries. A jury of 132 international design experts judged the said entries based on five criteria: idea, form, function, differentiation, and impact.

“We are truly honored to receive one of the most distinguished design awards in the world for the two all-new models we launched this fiscal year,” Mitsubishi Motors Division General Manager of Design Seiji Watanabe noted.

“I believe each model was recognized for expressing its own character in a unique form — the Triton shows a daring expression, and the Xforce adopts an agile look — while also combining robustness, which is typical of Mitsubishi Motors' design. This award will become our driving force in introducing the Triton and the Xforce to even more customers,” he added.

Triton pickup truck

The Mitsubishi Triton was officially launched in the Philippines earlier this year.

With roots going back as far as the Mitsubishi Forte, which was introduced in 1978, the Triton has seen production of about 5.7 million units across five generations and sold in approximately 150 countries around the world. On that note, the pickup truck can be considered the Tokyo-headquartered carmaker’s global strategic model.

The Mitsubishi Triton wears exterior details based on the brand’s Beast Mode design concept. That said, the Triton expresses the toughness and strength expected of a pickup truck, while at the same time demonstrating an imposing look with ruggedness and agility.

Its interior offers a robust, horizontally-themed instrument panel that allows drivers to easily see changes in the position of the vehicle while driving. Slapped on the cabin are dials and switches that can be operated with ease even when wearing gloves. Further, the steering wheel, grips, and door handles are designed with a focus on grip comfort and sturdiness.

Xforce

On the other hand, the soon-to-arrive Mitsubishi Xforce is touted as a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) that can provide its owners comfort and practicality including a spacious cabin and versatile storage spaces well-balanced in a maneuverable, compact body size.

Moreover, it has also been designed to offer its would-be owners a safe and secure ride in various weather or road conditions.

The Mitsubishi Xforce uses the company’s “Silky & Solid” design concept, which makes the vehicle’s upper body express an airy silkiness. From the beltline below, the Xforce adopts solid and powerful proportions, creating a stylish yet robust authentic SUV styling.

Inside, the Mitsubishi Xforce has a sophisticated interior with a cutting-edge feel. At the dashboard is a 12.3-inch smartphone-link display audio and a digital driver display integrated into a large monolithic panel.
