Nissan Terra’s 600 mm water wading capability showcased

MANILA: Ever since 2018 Nissan Terra was launched in the Philippines earlier this year, it has been getting some rave reviews. Also, Nissan's absence from the segment further added fuel to the fire. The Nissan Terra is already on the top three selling SUVs in the country. Now, to add to the hype, Nissan Philippines gave a demonstration of the SUV’s capability. Made it wade through water which was deeper than its 450 mm claimed wading depth.

At launch earlier this year, chief engineers at Nissan Philippines confirmed that the Nissan Terra would wade through 450 mm of water. However, to further cement the vehicle’s reputation, the same engineers are now saying that it can go deeper into the water than what was said before. This includes water wading capability of around 500 mm and even 600 mm. That’s quite a lot. At Nissan’ Technical Centre in Japan, along with other Nissan SUVs, Terra’s water wading capability was showcased. The SUV was driven through more than 500 mm of water.

Nissan also says that if these kinds of stunts are to be attended by the owners of these cars, then they need to be trained first. Nissan says that the “bow wave” movement rhythm is to be followed for wading through water with the Terra. It further emphasises that a trained driver had showcased the SUV’s prowess at the Technical Centre. At the 600 mm mark while the Terra carried on unfazed, the water had already started seeping into the cabin. For this, Nissan commented that even though the water does enter the cabin, the electricals are water and fire resistant. Hence there will be no damage to say the AC or other switches.
