MANILA: Nissan’s next-generation e-Power hybrid technology — through the Qashqai compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) — has earned a Guinness World Records title.

What specific Guinness World Records title did Nissan achieve?
The Nissan Qashqai e-Power earned the official Guinness World Records title for the “longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle SUV without external charging or refuelling.”How far did the vehicle travel?
During the record attempt, the vehicle traveled 1,980 kilometers on a single full tank of gasoline, driving from Bogota to the Caribbean coast in Colombia across diverse road conditions, traffic levels, and terrains.Per the Japanese carmaker, the said model (running on the aforementioned electrified powertrain) received certification from the British record-keeping body for “longest journey completed by a non-plug-in extended-range electric vehicle SUV without external charging or refuelling.”
“The record-breaking drive is the latest proof point in Nissan’s global e‑Power journey,” the company wrote in a press release.
“Following successful long-distance challenges in the United Kingdom and Tasmania, the Guinness World Records achievement demonstrates how e‑Power consistently delivers efficiency, long-range capability and an EV (electric vehicle)-like driving experience across diverse terrains, climates and real-world driving conditions,” it added.

From Bogota to the Caribbean coast
According to Nissan, setting the record required the next-gen e-Power-equipped model to travel from Bogota to the Caribbean coast in Colombia.
Running only on a full tank of gas, the vehicle covered some 1,980 kilometers to traverse a variety of roads, traffic, and driving conditions.
The feat — Nissan pointed out — showcased the efficiency, range confidence and real-world capability of its e‑Power technology.
In order to achieve such fuel economy, the Nissan Qashqai relied on the next-generation e-Power system’s advanced 5-in-1 modular powertrain that integrates the electric motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a compact, highly efficient package.
Combined with regenerative braking technology, the system continuously optimizes energy use to maximize efficiency without compromising driving enjoyment.
“This fantastic record once again shows the capability of the latest generation of e-Power technology. Qashqai e-Power delivers efficiency, refinement and EV-like driving performance that we have focused around real customer driving needs. It also plays an important role in Nissan’s electrification journey, helping more drivers experience the benefits of electric driving as they move towards a fully electric future,” Nissan Corporate Executive for Family, Product, and Components Strategy Richard Candler was quoted as saying.
Every stage of the attempt was independently monitored and verified by Guinness World Records judges, who, according to Nissan, certified the achievement following a detailed review process.
Nissan e-Power in PH
Nissan has already introduced the e-Power system in the Philippines and offers it through some of its popular nameplates such as the Kicks e-Power (Updated Nissan Kicks e-POWER to launch next month) and the returning X-Trail.
The former’s powertrain (to be launched soon) consists of an electric motor with a 1.5-liter inline-three gasoline engine mated to a single-speed gear reduction automatic transmission.
It generates some 134 horsepower (hp) and 280 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.
Similarly, the Nissan X-Trail e-Power uses a synchronous motor that is assisted by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with an automatic single-speed gear reduction transmission system. However, it produces more power at 201 hp and torque at 330 Nm.
