Porsche 911 GT2 RS sets new Nürburgring mark

MANILA: A Porsche 911 GT2 RS set a new lap record for road-legal production cars at the legendary Nordschleife (North Loop) of the Nürburging in Germany. This new record of six minutes and 43.3 seconds beat the previous best lap time for production vehicles by 4.747 seconds.

Porsche development driver Lars Kern helmed the 911 GT2 RS through the 20.8-km track. He drove the car on road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires at an average speed of 185.87 kph.

The record-setting car was equipped with the Manthey Performance Kit that was crafted by Porsche engineers and Manthey’s Nordschleife specialists.

Porsche Vice President for 911/718 Model Lines  Frank-Steffen Walliser said, “Our GT customers often use their cars on circuit, such as on track days. The engineers at Manthey and Porsche have together developed a perfectly tuned package that allows the 911 GT2 RS to deliver even higher performance.”

Kern was able to set a new record despite the scorching summer heat, with the track temperature reaching 41 degrees Celsius.

“The 911 GT2 RS sticks to the track like glue with the Manthey Performance Kit. You feel as if you’re in a racing car, especially on faster corners. It is truly breathtaking how the car puts its power down, and how incredibly well it brakes while always remaining easy to control,” Kern shared.

The Manthey Performance Kit includes chassis, aerodynamic, and brake components specially made for the 911 GT2 RS. It also comes with the Weissach Package’s magnesium alloy wheels.

The aerodynamic kit gives the car a distinctive look as it comes with additional flaps on the front spoiler and a carbon underbody that boost the downforce in front from 49kg to 70kg when the car is moving at 200kph. It also comes with a new rear spoiler, a modified diffuser, and aero discs on the rear wheels that increase the downforce on the rear axle from 93kg to 800kg at the same speed.

The 911 GT2 RS also features a sport-tuned coilover suspension with front shock absorbers that can be adjusted to three settings and rear shock absorbers that have four settings. The car’s PCCB ceramic brake system also comes with special racing brake pads that minimize fade while improving responsiveness and control. For more direct pedal feedback, the car is also equipped with steel-encased brake lines.

The 911 GT2 RS comes with magnesium wheels that measure 20 inches in front and 21 inches at the rear. Customers can choose among five wheel color variants: Brilliant Silver, Black, Aurum, White Gold Metallic, and Platinum.

The car also comes with an extra water tank that can be used to spray water to the intercoolers to increase overall volume for combustion.

With the newly developed parts, the 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit is a perfect choice for customers who take their cars on track, especially at the Nürburgring.
