Ringbrothers uncovers 'Caged' Ford Mustang restomod

MANILA: The custom-built 1964.5 Ford Mustang convertible known as "Caged" was unveiled by Ringbrothers, a renowned custom car builder and parts manufacturer. The design goal was to subtly evolve and modernize the original Mustang's lines and proportions while honoring the aesthetic of Ford's original pony car.

Aside from combining the design of a 20th-century icon with 21st-century technology, the Ringbrothers Caged Mustang represents the melding of contemporary appeal and unrestrained performance.

The only factory Mustang parts used in the Ringbrothers Caged Mustang are the wheel center caps. The Ringbrothers Caged Mustang was created from an original 1964.5 Mustang convertible. The Ringbrothers crew undertook substantial metalwork to broaden and lengthen the bodywork by one inch and to turn the Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis back into a unibody. All of the chrome and stainless steel trim was then given the BASF Glasurit "Burgundy Brave" finish and Cerakote Titanium C-105P treatment.

“The client was highly involved in the process and adamant on maintaining a subtle, stock-like appearance,” Ringbrothers co-owner Mike Ring explained. “Everything was cued off the Mustang’s original design, but we sharpened the lines and added a number of 3D-printed details to make it truly unique.”

“Every piece of this car has been touched and updated with the original design cues in mind, down to the iconic Mustang taillight bezels, gas cap and running horse emblems,” added Ringbrothers co-founder Jim Ring. “There’s a lot of nuances that went into the design, and we’re proud of that aspect of the build. Only the expert eye will be able to discern the subtly of the differences.”

The Ford Performance 5.0-liter Coyote V8 crate engine in the Ringbrothers Caged Mustang receives air through a newly designed front grille that is set back two inches for performance and protection. The engine is lubricated with Motul engine oil. Thanks to specially made headers by Ringbrothers and an exhaust system by Flowmaster, the Coyote sings its melody.

Ford's 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission is used for routing the power to the wheels. Thanks to a set of Continental tires mounted on a unique set of 18-inch EVOD Industries wheels designed to resemble the Mustang's legendary Rally wheels, the Mustang has excellent traction on the road. Penske Racing Shocks RS Edition performance coilovers, an independent rear suspension, and a pair of Baer brakes are responsible for the handling.

“In all, more than 4,200 hours were invested in bringing ’Caged’ to life,” Ring continued. “It was our pleasure to once again work with our trusted partners BASF, Motul, GFS, Heat Shield Products, Miller Welding, Painless Wiring and others to bring this car to life.”
