Suzuki Jimny Sierra pickup concept displayed at 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon

MANILA: Suzuki has introduced a prototype of the utility version of its new Jimny off-roader at the recently concluded Tokyo Auto Salon 2019. The new Jimny Sierra pickup style concept uses the same platform and wheelbase as Suzuki Jimny SUV. However, the concept offers small styling changes in order to adopt the pickup form.

The rugged off-roader by Suzuki, the Jimny Sierra (Jimny in other markets, including the Philippines) was launched back in 2018. It gets round headlights and separate indicators as the original LJ10. It also shares some elements with the SJ410 pertaining to its clamshell bonnet and the horizontal side-strakes. Speaking about its engine, the SUV comes with ‘K15B’ 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder 16-valve petrol engine which can churn out 101 PS of power at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm.

With the full cab SUV version of the Jimny being well received, the company has tried to come up with a solution for the folks who are keen towards carriage hauls. The rear end of the car has been sectioned to make a pickup deck which was showcased with toolboxes and a couple of logs at the Tokyo Auto Salon. A roll bar is also fitted near the centre of the car in order to make it look like other pickups.

The Suzuki Jimny Sierra concept features wood trimmings on the sides of the vehicle and on the tailgate along with the white wheels which give it a retro look. The interior also has gone through a make-over. Inside the cabin, it only gets one row of seating as the rear seats and the trunk area are gone. A large portion of the driver and co-driver seats are covered with tartan pattern.

However, more specifications about the engine remain unknown till now. Whether the new concept of Jimmy Sierra pickup will use Suzuki’s existing aforementioned engine still remains unknown. There is also no news about the production of this new concept vehicle.
