MANILA: Toyota Wigo, the economical compact hatch by the world automotive leader, is known for its decent aspects and affordability. Well, this drive is among the favorite hatches of Filipinos which is pretty obvious with the sales figures we have received recently. Toyota Wigo has recorded total sales of 3378 units between 1st January and 31st March 2016 which are pretty good in its class. The same was 2855 units during the same tenure in the year 2015. What makes this drive so popular over the time which resulted in enhanced sales of 18.31 percent? Let's have a comprehensive look at the sales of Wigo, last year and this year so far -

Wigo Sales

So, we already know that Toyota Wigo is proving to be a cash-cow for the Japanese automaker. Toyota sold 871 units of Wigo in January 2015 which increased to 1057 units in the month of February the same year. In March, 927 units of Wigo were sold by the manufacturer in the Philippines automotive market. Tracking this trend, Toyota sold 1027 units of Wigo in January 2016 which was approximately 18 percent jump in the sales than the last year of the same month. February also saw a similar trend this year with 1303 units sold which recorded a whopping 23.27 percent of the growth in the sales for this compact hatch in Filipino market. Talking about March 2016, the sales went down a little than the previous month with 1048 units sold and a hike of 13 percent achieved. The sales of this hatch from January to June 2015 was 5453 units while total sales of Toyota Wigo for the year 2015 was 12265 units which contributed its bit in making the manufacturer the biggest automotive brand in the Philippines.

Toyota has ensured the boosting of its sales by opening more and more dealerships across the Philippines. The latest facility was opened at Samar in May 2016 and with a dense network of the Metro Manila, Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon regions, Toyota surely understands the customer requirements. Coming to the reason which resulted in making Wigo so popular in the Philippines, well, reasons are many which fluctuate and influence the customers but let's have an analysis of what could have worked in favor of Toyota to boost the sales of Wigo -

Affordability

Indeed, affordability is one factor which is most important which purchasing a family hatch. Toyota Wigo looks highly economical with its price starting from PhP 473,000 which is for the 1.0 E M/T variant. If you think that only the base variant is affordable, let us tell you that its highest variant is available at an equally decent price of PhP 561,000 for the 1.0 G A/T.

3 Cylinders are the new 4! Yes, rightly said by an auto enthusiast. This entry-level hatchback comes powered by a 1.0-litre powertrain which is capable of churning out a peak power of 65 PS at 6000 rpm along with a peak torque showing 85 Nm at 3600 rpm. This engine is mated with either a 4-Speed automatic or a 5-Speed manual transmission. Surely, for an entry-level hatch, this engine is decent enough with good power and torque numbers.

Fuel Economy

What can you expect from a decent family hatch in fuel efficiency segment? Well, at least Wigo is considered to be one of those entry-level hatches which can deliver what they come tagged with, especially in fuel efficiency segment. Toyota Wigo 2016 is claimed to deliver a mileage of 12 kmpl in city drives with 16 kmpl in highways summing to a combined mileage of 14 kmpl in standard conditions. Surely, we would call this economical in its segment.
