VinFast strengthens global reach with India market launch

MANILA: After its grand debut in the Philippine market a year ago, VinFast has officially entered India at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. 

According to the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, its entry into India marks a huge milestone as it now has the means to compete in one of the largest automotive markets in the world. 

The brand’s first two vehicles for the South Asian nation are the VF 6 and VF 7, which VinFast says are expected to meet the electrified mobility needs of Indian consumers. 

“Our presence at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025 represents a significant milestone as we showcase our India-bound products here for the first time,” VinFast Asia Chief Executive Offer Pham Sanh Chau said. 

“We believe our premium SUVs (sport utility vehicles) VF 6 and VF 7 are the game changes that will accelerate the adoption of EVs in India,” Chau added. 

Per VinFast India Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sales Aswin Ashok Patil shared, the selling period of the two models will start in India in the early second half of 2025. Currently, the brand is appointing dealer partners within the territory.

In the Philippine market, the five-seater VF 7 is available in two different trims, with a price ranging from P1.47 million-P1.73 million with a battery subscription or P1.76 million-P2.38 million without a battery subscription. 

For its powertrain, the top-spec VF 7 Plus utilizes a dual-motor setup capable of producing up to 348 horsepower and 500 Newton-meters of torque. With a full battery charge, it can cover a distance of 496 kilometers. 

The Philippine-spec VF 7 Plus also comes with the following notable features: 

• Eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat
• Advanced driver-assist systems
• Dual-zone automatic climate control
• Wireless smartphone charger
• 90-watt USB-C ports
• LED exterior lighting 
• Electronic parking brake
• Over-the-air updates

The subcompact VinFast VF 6, which is markedly smaller than the VF 7, has yet to be introduced to the Philippine market. It first debuted at the 2022 Paris Motor Show and is currently sold in Vietnam, North America, Europe, and the Middle East.

For now, the brand has yet to indicate whether the VF 6 will be coming to the Philippines, but after its launch in India, we hope that the brand’s local arm will also make it available for Filipino car buyers.
