Zigwheels PH weekly wrap: Dec. 8-12

MANILA: For December 2025’s second week, the local automotive market remained busy with vehicle launches, dealership openings, and the continuation of various roadshows designed to draw in more customers. 

Likewise, the global market remained abuzz with plenty of new products coming out. 

Local launches 

New Toyota Tamaraw variants

Earlier this week, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) surprised businessmen and fleet operators by bolstering the company’s Tamaraw lineup. 

Noting that the additional variants are a result of customer feedback, the Japanese carmaker’s local subsidiary not only showed it listens to its clients but also proved it is capable of answering the various needs of Filipino car buyers who rely on its products to drive their businesses forward — a testament to the nameplate’s “abante posible” slogan. 

The new trims are the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw GL Utility Van and Aluminum Cargo. These new grades are priced at P1.307 million and P1.167 million, respectively. 

Toyota bZ4X 

The highly anticipated full-electric crossover from the global brand’s Philippine wing has officially been launched on Thursday. 

Of note, the Toyota bZ4X made quite the buzz before its launch, as a so-called internet personality claimed that the nameplate was not from the automaker’s home market. 

TMP was quick to dismiss the fake news and noted that the units will be directly sourced from Japan. 

The Toyota bZ4X is now on sale with a sticker price of P2.699 million.

Dealer openings 

Nissan pop-up in Bataan 

Nissan Philippines has opened its first pop-up store in the country via its Bataan dealership.  

According to the local wing of the Japanese car brand, its new concept store is able to offer customers sales, spare parts, and service solutions. The said temporary facility also has a showroom that can accommodate up to four cars. 

It is located in the municipality of Abucay. 

Suzuki Calapan 

Similarly, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated’s automobile arm also opened a new dealer in Oriental Mindoro. 

The marque’s newest installation is in the area of Calapan and is operated alongside its partner Reliance Auto Dynamics Incorporated. 

Suzuki Auto Calapan has a showroom that can cater to six vehicles and a fully equipped workshop with 10 service bays. 

During the inauguration of the newly-minted building, the company also turned over several units to its first few customers.

Roadshows 

Lexus 

Toyota-owned Lexus staged the third leg of its roadshow at Shangri-la Mall EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) in Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong. 

Showcased models included the Lexus RX 350h Executive, NX 350h Executive, and LM 350h seven-seater. 

Ford 

As for Ford Motor Company Philippines, the local arm of the Blue Oval brand has staged its final Ford Island Conquest for the year alongside the reactivated Year-End Sale (YES) promo. 

Held at the Bonifacio Global City Amphitheater in Taguig, deals for select models of the Ford Territory Hybrid, Everest, Ranger Raptor, Explorer, and Bronco were up for grabs. 

Global launches 

Aside from the aforementioned local events, several brands also staged launches globally for some models. 

Subaru, for instance, has introduced the Uncharted electric vehicle for the United States market, as well as the all-new Trailseeker in the same region. Meanwhile, Kia unveiled the EV5 WKNDR Edition in China and launched the second-generation Seltos globally. 

Nissan also rolled out the Kait for its Latin American customers, and Toyota unleashed the next-generation Hilux in Australia.
