Local launches
New Toyota Corolla Altis variants
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has expanded its portfolio of electrified offerings by adding two new hybrid models to the Corolla Altis lineup. Specifically, the Corolla Altis E HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) CVT and G HEV CVT.
What’s important to note here is that both new trim levels use the same hybrid powertrain as the range-topping GR-S HEV CVT trim, which is comprised of the 2ZR-FXE engine with a displacement size of 1,798 cubic centimeters with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The said setup makes approximately 120 horsepower (hp) and 142 Newton-meters (Nm).
When it comes to niceties, one can get an idea when checking the variant name. TMP often uses the “E” moniker for entry-level grades, while the “G” badging is usually reserved for mid-specification units.
As such, the latter improves upon the former’s offering with things like improved illumination, a larger set of wheels, better comfort for the occupants, and bolstered safety.
GAC Aion UT
GAC International Philippines has officially launched the much-awaited Aion UT.
Classified as a compact hatchback, it boasts emissions-free driving of up to 400 kilometers (km) in a single charge thanks to an all-electric setup with a single electric motor that drives the front wheels, which generates 134 hp and 145 Nm.
Already established as a hit in other regions, it is sized a little larger than small electric car staples, such as the Dongfeng Nammi and the BYD Seagull.
Still finding its footing in the Philippines, the recently-launched GAC Aion UT already has a strong following in countries like Thailand, Australia, Europe, and Latin America (according to GAC International Philippines).
VinFast e-scooters
VinFast is poised to penetrate the local electric scooter market with a trifecta of offerings.
Leading the charge is the VinFast Viper, which will likely find success thanks to its styling and capabilities.
To begin with, the electric motorcycle flaunts a sporty and aggressive exterior and an inhub electric motor with an estimated range of around 80 km. It also endows the bike with a top speed of 70 to 90 kilometers per hour.
Key to its potential is the battery swapping system that allows would-be owners to change their battery in seconds. A single battery weighs approximately 12 kilograms and takes four and a half hours to recharge.
The VinFast Viper can take two batteries, increasing its range overall.
The two other electric scooters are the VinFast Feliz II and Evo. The former is like a softer version of the Viper, while the Evo offers a more classic-looking ride, reminiscent of the likes of vintage Vespa scoots.
Other nameplate-specific news
In other news regarding buzz created by specific nameplates, the BYD Seagull in Seashell Pink has surpassed its 70-unit sales target — allowing the ACMobility-led marque to turn over P770,000 to the Healthway Foundation’s Cancer Care Hope Fund.
The move to donate money to the organization was part of BYD Cars Philippines’ campaign to support Filipino cancer patients and their families.
Per the car company, the donation is aimed at easing the financial burden often associated with cancer care—allowing patients and their families to focus on healing, recovery, and hope for the future.
Still with ACMobility, the Ayala-owned mobility brand has donated an Isuzu FVR34 Q water tanker to the Philippine Red Cross.
Isuzu Philippines Corporation noted that the truck can withstand to carry such application as it boasts a reinforced chassis frame and high axle capacity. It can move around up to 8,000 liters of water with its Euro IV-compliant Isuzu 6HK1-TCN Blue Power Diesel Engine.
Finally, a total of 10 Fuso Canter FE71 light commercial vehicles now support Vic Imperial Appliance Corporation in its bid to move around appliances for its customers in the country.
It was the second time, Sojitz Fuso Philippines Corporation has turned over units to the appliance seller.
Dealership openings
Many car brands, too, reported expansion of reach by opening various dealer locations in the Philippines.
For example, the UAAGI conglomerate has opened dealership locations for BAIC and Chery in Quezon Avenue.
The multi-brand facility is operated by Wheels Incorporated under the leadership of its chairman, Escorton Teng. It is located at 602 Quezon Avenue corner Tuayan Street, boasting 800 square meters of space and is ready to meet the growing demands of the two Chinese marques’ customers — from vehicle supply to aftersales support.
On the other hand, Changan-owned Deepal has opened its first dealership in the Philippines.
The building is situated along Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City, and spans a floor space of approximately 1,562 square meters.
During the opening ceremony, Deepal Philippines has turned over the first batch of automobiles to excited owners. These are made up of the Deepal S05 and G318 REEV (range-extended electric vehicle).
As for Foton Motor Philippines Incorporated, the company has opened the doors of its A. Bonifacio outlet, which also serves as the brand’s new flagship electric vehicle (EV) dealership.
It stands at 728 A. Bonifacio Avenue, Balintawak, Quezon City, with a spacious showroom (which can accommodate up to 15 vehicles) inside its 2,000 square-meter facility.
Lastly, Ford Philippines has put a pop-up store at San Carlos City in Negros Occidental.
It hosted interested customers at Lot 55 A, Carmona Street, San Carlos City; and wrapped up just days ago, May 22.
Units on display were the Ford Territory Hybrid, Ranger, and Everest.

On the other hand, Honda Cars Philippines Incorporated introduced its new extended warranty program, which is touted to provide a stress-free car ownership experience, even on a long-term basis.
That said, would-be owners of the Honda Prelude and CR-V will get extended warranty through the Honda Secure Plus plan.
