Check out Suzuki Access’ perks, drawbacks

In the Philippine market, retro-styled scooters have been gaining popularity for quite some time now. As such, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated expanded its lineup with the recent introduction of the Access - a 125-cubic-centimeter (cc) scoot endowed with an eye-catching classic style.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What is the price range of the Suzuki Access?

The Suzuki Access has a price ranging from P84,900-P93,900.
  • How much horsepower and torque can the Suzuki Access produce?

The Suzuki Access can produce up to 8.3 horsepower and 10.2 Newton-meters of torque.
  • With a price ranging from P84,900-P93,900, the Suzuki Access is poised to take on the highly competitive automatic scooter segment. For that, the model was provided with a lot of features, and while it is retro-looking, it does have some tech up its sleeve as well.

But does the Suzuki Access have any weaknesses buyers should watch out for? Also, what are its particular strengths? Let’s find out here.

    Pros

    Loads of features

One clear strength of the Suzuki Access, especially the Ride Connect Edition top-spec trim, is its abundance of features.

For starters, the motorcycle has a 2.4-liter underseat compartment, which is enough for storing one’s helmet. Plus, its wide floorboard can accommodate grocery bags, a laundry basket, or a medium-sized backpack.

Monitoring the motorcycle’s parameters and other relevant data is also easy thanks to its full-color TFT meter panel. Plus, the top-spec trim comes with the Suzuki Ride Connect+, which allows for smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth, call and text notifications, ambient weather/temperature updates, as well as turn-by-turn navigation.

Other noteworthy amenities available on the Suzuki Access include:

    • Passing light switch
    • Kill switch with Easy Start System
    • Hazard lamp switch
    • One-push central locking system
    • Rear-mounted concealed fuel cap
    • Side stand safety switch
    • Leather seat upholstery
    • USB port

    Decently peppy powertrain

The Suzuki Access uses a relatively peppy 125-cc, four-stroke, single-cylinder, single-overhead-cam (SOHC) gasoline engine. At maximum, it can produce up to 8.3 horsepower (hp) and 10.2 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque, which are on par with its closest competitors.

Additionally, the model may prove to be less complicated to fix and maintain due to its air-cooled system. It also has an injected fuel system, a continuously variable transmission (CVT), as well as a transistorized electronic ignition system.

For ride quality and handling, the Suzuki-made nameplate depends on a telescopic front fork and a rear swing arm that both come with oil-damped coil springs. Stopping power for the Access is done via a front disc brake and rear drum brakes.

    Sturdy but stylish body

While it is filled with useful features, the Suzuki Access maintains a compact body that is well-suited to Philippine roads. Additionally, its body has an interesting design that carries plenty of classic design choices such as round-shaped side mirrors, a chrome-framed headlamp, and steel fenders.

Notably, the steel fenders are a nice touch as they give the Access a feeling of sturdiness and durability. Fenders, after all, are often the first to break even during mild fender benders.

Additionally, the scooter gets a generously roomy seat with a flat surface. The aforementioned can provide a comfortable upright riding position, which is suitable for long commutes or even some measure of long-distance driving.

    Cons

Limited color options for top-spec trim

Based on the official Suzuki Philippines Incorporated website and the model’s brochure, the top-spec Access Ride Connect Edition is only available in Metallic Matte Stellar Blue.

Sure, the said color looks fantastic, but having only one color option for a variant could dissuade some buyers. Even then, the standard Suzuki Access trim only has three colors available as well. These are Metallic Matte Black, Pearl Grace White, and Solid Ice Green.

    Final thoughts

Overall, the Suzuki Access ticks plenty of boxes. It has an attractively old-school look, coupled with modern amenities and a decently peppy powertrain. Sure, it has limited colors, but all of its strengths clearly glosses over its disadvantages.

So, for people who like what they see in the Suzuki Access, do take the time to visit the nearest Suzuki dealership to give the scooter a test ride. Because who knows, it might just be the right motorcycle for you.
