Own a Turbocharged Vehicle? Be Cautious About These Things
The trend of turbocharged engines has seen a steep rise owing to the fact that companies are now keen on developing drives which not only comply with emission standards but also are potent to deliver exuberant power outputs. The answer to the above stated statement is downsizing the engine’s displacement without affecting the final power output, which can be done via turbocharged engine. This is the reason why you’d see more turbocharged engines, diesel as well as petrol instead of naturally aspirated ones. Owning a turbocharged engine brings along few cautious things which you need to take care of. It is different from the usual car engine and has quite a number of things which call for your attention from the day as soon as you start hitting pedal of the vehicle. Here are some of the things you can’t simply ignore if you are a proud owner of a turbocharged car.
Don’t push on a cool engine
It is generally recommended to let the temperature of your car to rise to an extent before going hard on it. Whether it’s an naturally aspirated engine or an engine fitted with turbocharger, this remains as a thumbs rule throughout. But, point to ponder here is that how to know the engine oil’s temperature? The cluster in your car which displays temperature is the one that is responsible for showing you the temperature of coolant and not the engine oil’s. Take note of the coolant temperature and once it rises to the middle level, it indicates the right time to go hard.
Due to a turbocharger, it becomes necessary for you take a right call when to actually push hard. As in a turbocharged vehicle, the turbo spins pretty quickly and it requires the same level of lubrication. So, in order to meet the same you need to wait till the temperature is good enough for you to go through.
Don’t shut the engine at once
Another issue which gets arose in case of a turbocharged engine is of shutting down the engine. A quite amount of heat is produced in the turbo after you take a halt from your adventurous car run. This calls for a cooling agent, which in this case is the engine oil that takes control of the picture and cools everything down.
Once the engine is at halt, all the heat is sucked away, the oil won’t circulate in the engine and it will make it to come in contact with the hot internal metal parts, which ultimately leads to burning and disintegrating of oil that can further harm the internal car’s components.
Hence, it is advised that either you slow down from your adventurous run for a while before shutting down the engine or keep your car in idle state for a while so that all components can come back to normal.
Don’t drag or lug
This is one of the most common things to happen, which requires your attention. People unknowingly drags the vehicle at wrong rpms, which cause harm to the engine. Lugging is a popular term in the auto world, which refers to driving at low rpms on a high gear. They keep on accelerating without shifting down creating additional pressure on the engine expecting the car to deliver the unnatural stuff. Accelerating your car means that you expect a rise in its power output, which cannot be possible.
Lugging could have an adverse effect on your car’s engine, which can easily be avoided or prevented by simply downshifting a gear or two according to the requirement.
Don’t compromise on fuel
If you own a turbocharged car, don’t compromise on the fuel quality. Always try to fuel your car with the highest quality of fuel available as low fuel quality can make your experience terrible, which no one desires to happen. The turbo engines deliver the best when are fueled with good quality fuel. Fueling with right quality fuel will prevent your car from knocking and will deliver excellent performance.
