2020 BMW 7 Series is super economical, offers up to 47 kmpl
MANILA: We generally do no relate expensive luxury cars and economical performance with each other, do we? The luxury cars are always thought to be carrying either a V6 or V8 mean beast and the economical fuel consumption figures are always expected from the cheapos.
However, change is natural, as they say. Technology has been improving with the passage of every single day and we finally have a car which offers both luxury and an impressive fuel economy. And we are not kidding.
To the rescue is the all-new BMW 7 Series sedan. The plug-in hybrid has now been equipped with a battery along with the straight-six mill and an electric motor. There is also a socket on the fender as the sedan is a plug-in hybrid.
Producing 286 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 450 Nm is a boosted 3.0-litre inline-six motor under the hood. An 8-speed automatic transmission unit is the house of an electric motor capable of pumping out a maximum power of 113 PS and 265 Nm of peak torque. What’s better? The motor acts as a generator while going downhill, braking, or coasting.
The new 7 Series sedan comes with an all-electric range of 58 km. While going downhill, coasting, or braking helps in charging the 12 kWh lithium-ion battery, it can also be fully charged from 0-100 % via a 230v socket in 4.4 hours. The final output of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor combined is 394 PS of maximum power and 600 Nm of peak torque.
Talking about some more numbers, if you have got a long enough stretch, the 745e will take no more than 5.2 seconds to reach 100 kmph from a standstill. The long wheelbase variant, dubbed as 745Le is capable of achieving the same feat in a matter of 5.3 seconds. However, 745Le xDrive,
which is the AWD variant is marginally quicker as it takes 5.1 seconds for a 0-100 kmph run. The highlight of the story? The standard wheelbase model can serve you with an impressive fuel efficiency of up to 47 kmpl. Great job, BMW.
