MANILA: In September 2025, a fleet of automobiles participated in a fuel economy run staged by the Department of Energy (DOE) and Petron.

The event covered a total of 154.5 km.The said event gathered over 20 brands who put forward some of their most popular nameplates, putting the said models through their paces, covering a total of 154.5 kilometers (km) from Tarlac to La Union.
In no particular order, here is the list of the vehicles in the eco-drive and their respective fuel economy rating.
JAC
JAC Philippines fielded two of its models, specifically the T8 Pro 4x2 AT Advance and the Ytterby Pro 505. The former managed to achieve a 17.54 kilometers per liter of gasoline equivalent (km/Lge) rating while the latter clocked in at 68.52 km/Lge.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaFor reference, the pickup truck uses a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, while the compact hatchback is a fully electric model.
JMC
For its part, JMC Philippines participated using the Grand Avenue 4x4 AT with a 2.3-liter turbocharged diesel mill and the JMEV EV3 330 using an all-electric powertrain.
The large pickup got a 15.94 km/Lge rating while the compact car got 75.28 km/Lge.
GAC
GAC's entry in the eco-run is the GS3 Emzoom R-Style that packs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine; and the Emkoo Hybrid GL, which uses a 2.0-liter gasoline powerplant assisted by an electric motor to achieve hybrid propulsion.
For the internal combustion engine-powered subcompact sport utility vehicle’s (SUV) performance, it clocked in at 18.61 km/Lge. Meanwhile, its hybrid stablemate got 22.00 km/Lge.
Mini
Although small in size, the Mini Cooper Aceman SE Hatchback proved that it is big in performance, especially when it comes to measuring fuel economy.
It got a fuel economy rating equivalent to 91.51 km/Lge, thanks to its battery-electric powertrain.
Hongqi
Chinese luxury car brand Hongqi Philippines has entered three models from its roster, namely the E-HS9, E-HS7, and E-H7. The electric models achieved 40.57, 48.7, and 51.16 km/Lge, respectively.

Foton Philippines, too, joined the fuel economy trial and tested with the Tunland V9 and V7. Both are fitted with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine with an automatic transmission, but the former proved to be less efficient than the latter as shown in their 13.63 and 14.48 km/Lge ratings.
Volvo
The first brand in our list under Hariphil Asia Resources Incorporated is Volvo Philippines. The premium Swedish marque brought out two relatively premium models in the form of the XC60 T8 Ultra and the EX30 Ultra.
The first-mentioned model uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 23.0-liter gasoline engine and was able to muster a performance with a 52.19 km/Lge rating. Volvo Cars Philippines’ second entry uses a battery-electric powertrain and was able to achieve a fuel economy rating equivalent to 76.21 km/Lge.
Chevrolet
The local wing of the Golden Bowtie brand fielded one of its newest offerings, the Groove.
It is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and hauls a body in crossover form. On that note, it was able to achieve a fuel economy rating of 17.50 km/Lge.
Honda
A three-model lineup was brought by Honda Cars Philippines to the eco-run.
It consisted of the HR-V RS e:HEV (powered by a 1.5–liter gasoline engine), Civic RS e:HEV (uses a 2.0-liter gasoline powerplant), and CR-V RS e:HEV (with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine).

Isuzu
Isuzu, too, got to participate in the DOE-led fuel economy drive.
The local subsidiary of the Japanese auto maker brought the D-max LS-A and mu-X LS-E. These diesel–powered vehicles use a 3.0-liter mill, respectively. However, the pickup truck proved to be more efficient with a 20.63 km/Lge rating, but its SUV counterpart still managed a decent performance at 17.11 km/Lge.
GWM Philippines
Great Wall Motor (GWM) Philippines joined the econo test drive with its Cannon pickup truck. It put forward two variants of the nameplate, namely the Lux and SLux trims. Both models are fitted with a 2.4-liter turbocharged diesel engine, but had varying results.

Mitsubishi
As for the Three Diamond brand, it entered the Mirage G4 GLS compact sedan and Triton Athlete into the fuel test drive.
The Mitsubishi Mirage (with a 1.2-liter gasoline engine) clocked in at 24.98 km/Lge, while the Triton managed a 16.88 km/Lge result.
Nissan
The struggling Nissan brand also joined the effort in tallying the fuel efficiency of locally offered models to prove to Filipino car buyers that its products are still worth buying.
Braving the planned route are the Nissan Almera, Kicks e-Power VL, and Livina VL. The results are 29.33, 37.04, and 18.84 km/Lge.
MG
Proving that most of the cars in its lineup are fuel-efficient rides, Morris Garages (MG) Philippines brought five models.
These are the ZS Hybrid+, MG3 Hybrid, G50 Plus, MG4 Lux, and ZS Luxury. Looking at the numbers, the said nameplates produced the following figures, respectively: 28.29, 28.11, 24.62, 71.03, and 21.58 km/Lge.
Suzuki
The popular compact car brand entered the Suzuki Dzire GLX and Fronx SGX. The sedan uses a 1.2-liter gasoline powerplant while the crossover has a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. They clocked in at 36.10 and 24.69 km/Lge, respectively.

Looking to compete with some of the staple brands in the Philippines is Tesla. The American electric carmaker looks to prove to Japanese, Chinese, and Korean marques why it is highly regarded in the electric car segment.
The Tesla Model Y Rear-wheel Drive and Model 3 Rear-wheel Drive trim levels made easy work of the eco-run, clocking in at 84.63 and 92.8 km/Lge, respectively.
Toyota
The leading car brand in the country fielded the Wigo E, Yaris Cross HEV, Raize G CVT, Corolla Cross GR-S HEV, and Innova Zenix models. Its large lineup comprised of internal combustion engine-powered and hybrid models.

Lexus
Lexus proved that luxury can go hand-in-hand with sustainability.
Present in the event were the Lexus LBX and RZ 450e. They garnered a fuel economy rating of 28.51 and 55.66 km/Lge.
UAAGI-distributed models
Under the United Asia Automotive Group, Incorporated umbrella are various car brands.
First on the list is the BAIC B30e Dune 4x4 with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine in a hybrid platform. It achieved a performance of 20.46 km/Lge. Up next is the X55 Verve Sport with a 1.5-liter mill that got 19.54 km/Lge.
Photo by Juan Paulo PapaSecond is the Chery Tiggo Grand Tour with a 1.5-liter gasoline powerplant. After the drive, it logged a 15.26 km/Lge fuel economy rating. Accompanying it was the Tiggo Rev C-DM that packs a 1.5-liter engine with plug-in hybrid technology, which landed an 84.28 km/Lge result.
Lastly, the Lynk & Co. brand came with the 01 plug-in hybrid, 02 High Trim, and 6 Hyper Halo. Numbers produced after the ordeal were at 58.06, 71.71, and 14.57 km/Lge, respectively.
