Jaguar Prepares To Ride the Lightning
MANILA: While the title could mean that the British luxury automobile brand Jaguar Cars is developing a ‘Metallica’ themed vehicle, we want you readers to take things more literally and think about the environment. It is common for most auto fans to be more concerned about the engine power when checking out a drivetrain, but the rise of electric powered vehicles has also brought forth a ‘green’ quotient. We are definitely not talking about a ‘Hulk’ themed vehicle either, but rather about the possibility of Jaguar developing their all-electric, low-emission luxury vehicles for the market.
The last glimpse of an all-electric drivetrain by the iconic carmakers was for the 2015 James Bond flick, Spectre. Named as the Jaguar C-X75, the all-electric sports vehicle was only released as a concept in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show. It was driven in the movie by the raging Mr. Hinx who serves as one of the primary henchmen for the film’s antagonist. Although the revolutionary design of the C-X75 took the auto fans by storm, the Great Recession has certainly made sure that such ‘elitist’ and expensive products never reach the production line, much to the fans dismay.
But not all is lost for the environmentally aware automobile fans as the Tata Motors-owned luxury vehicle brand is ready to literally electrify its future buyers. Putting such a great technology to waste would certainly be foolhardy and a brand like Jaguar Cars is certainly wise enough to trickle down the same technology to their production vehicles. According to various sources, the British luxury vehicle brand has already filed at least 3 new patents related to the possible appearance for 3 new all-electric vehicles in the next 2-3 years. We have already seen what the newly acquired Jaguar has in store with the new F-Type, XF, F-Pace SUV and XE models. The latest trademarks were revealed to be named as the I-Type and I-Pace and will likely be the first one to be revealed in 2018. The news was also casually confirmed by Ian Callum, the chief of automobile design at Jaguar Cars at the New York Auto Show that they will have something that will not underpin a fossil-fuel powered engine in the next two years. As Mr. Callum only mentioned the possible drivetrain, it is still unclear whether the fans will see a new vehicle or simply the electric versions of the F-Type and the F-Pace models.
