Leaked patent images suggest an upcoming Mitsubishi Strada Absolute

MANILA: Along with the increasing customer interest in the SUV and crossover segment, pickup trucks are also catching up. As more and more people are now using pickup trucks as utility vehicles than just load carriers, the automakers are also equipping their offerings with the latest tech and state-of-the-art features. But it is not just the newest features that the population demands. With the evolution of the automobile industry and people becoming more mechanically knowledgeable, the demand for off-road dedicated pickup trucks is on the rise as well.

In order to suffice the same, Mitsubishi previewed an off-road and adventure devoted Strada Absolute in the month of March, earlier this year. However, the previewed pickup was only a concept and the Japanese automaker didn’t spill the beans about its future plans. But now, some patent images of the rugged Strada or shall we say Triton have started doing rounds on the internet. So, with the patent images out, shall we expect a production model of the Mitsubishi Strada Absolute anytime soon? Well, we hope we should.

The leaked images show a couple of variants of the Strada Absolute. Starting off with the first one, the patent images stay true to the concept with an aerodynamic sports bar with rails integrated on the sides. There are also thick body cladding, roof-mounted LED lightbar, and blank fog lamp housings. The second variant cuts down a lot of features like roof basket, roof lights, and sports bar. No other changes are visible, though.

The concept displayed at the 2019 Bangkok Motor Show featured a raised suspension thanks to a 50 mm lift kit. As a result, the pickup had a ground clearance of 270 mm (about 10.6 inches), which is more than the standard 220 mm setup. We are not sure of the increased ground clearance on the Mitsubishi Strada Absolute as the patent images do not portray any information about the suspension. So, with the concept displayed and patents filed, we should be pretty close to seeing the Strada Absolute in flesh, shouldn’t we?
