Mazda MX-5 with removable hardtop coming to 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon

MANILA: Mazda is all set to enthral the audience at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon in January with its new MX-5. The car will be offered with a completely removable hardtop. To make it clear, it is not the MX-5 RF whose roof can be folded electronically. It rather has a hardtop that can be completely removed. The new concept is called the MX-5 Drop-Head Coupe Concept.

As a buyer, if you wish to buy MX-5 with hardtop, till now you’d have to settle with the RF model. But not anymore as Mazda MX-5 with removable hardtop is on its way. To be displayed as a concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon, there is a high possibility of it entering into production very soon. However, anything official regarding the same is yet to be known.

There are a few modifications expected on the new MX-5 Drop-Head Coupe Concept, including an exclusive body kit, 16-inch RAYS shoes and tow hooks at the front as well as at the back. Inside, we are anticipating it to have the scintillating aluminium pedals and more comfortable Recaro bucket seats.

On the performance front, the engine is expected to be the same as before but with an upgraded clutch, lighter flywheel, and limited-slip differential.

Not just this, expect a lot more from Mazda at the auto salon as it will be introducing the new Mazda3 (sedan and hatch) for the first time in Japan, with an exclusive factory body kit. Additionally, new body kits for Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-8 are expected to be released.
