Porsche, Puma releases 911 Turbo-inspired sneakers

MANILA: To celebrate the 911 Turbo’s 50th anniversary, Porsche released a sneaker line inspired by the nameplate and its rich history.

Created in collaboration with Puma, the said kicks were made in 12 different sneaker designs, limited to only 911 examples each.

Per the Stuttgart-headquartered marque, two models in the sneaker series “have a historical connection to iconic Porsche models and are inspired by their iconic design elements.”

“The design of the ‘Turbo No. 1’ sneaker is based on the legendary Porsche that was presented to Louise Piëch on her 70th birthday. The design of the ‘Turbo 930’ sneaker was developed in honor of Dr. Ferry Porsche's Turbo vehicle from 1976,” the company explained.

Retailed at shop.porsche.com and in the Porsche Museum Shop in its home country, Porsche said that the 50th anniversary limited sneaker editions “Turbo No. 1” and “Turbo 930” have been made available since August 29 and were priced at 169 Euros (around P6,100). The shoes were packaged with an additional set of black laces for an even more individual look.

An exclusive black Porsche Puma sports bag with zipper and adjustable shoulder strap serves as packaging, underlining the exclusive character of this edition.

Shoes’ details

Inspired by Louise Piëch's Porsche car, the “Turbo No. 1” sneakers sport a metallic silver color in full grain leather. Inside, the shoes feature the iconic red and blue tartan pattern found in the first ever 911 Turbo model.

On the other hand, the “Turbo 930” sneaker is in Oak Green Metallic nubuck leather — roused by Dr. Ferry Porsche's Turbo from 1976. The kick’s inner lining has a green tartan pattern.

All versions wear the vintage turbo lettering on the outside and subtle Porsche logo. The shoes’ heel portion picks up on the “whale fin” characteristic of the rear spoiler and the vehicle's horizontal red taillights. It also has a tonal Porsche Crest in three-dimensional print.

Further, the shoes are outfitted with a removable plaque with 50th anniversary lettering. The brand-new motorsport-inspired Puma “Road Rider” sneaker silhouette was chosen for all models.

In addition, Porsche shall also launch 10 exclusive market editions — each inspired by a specific Porsche 911 Turbo car from a selected market around the world.

Like the earlier-released versions, the market-specific shoes will also have 911 pairs each.

For the designs, the selected markets - Germany, France, Poland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, the United States and Canada - have chosen one of 30 available exterior colors from the original Porsche color charts from 1975 up to 1977.
