Suzuki Fronx design inspired by thoroughbred horses

MANILA: Suzuki has shared the inspiration that birthed the appearance of the all-new Fronx. Interestingly, it was inspired by horses, specifically by a picture of a thoroughbred running at full tilt. 

The aforementioned was shared by Suzuki Motor Corporation Chief Engineer for Product Planning and Automobile B&C Segment Division Takashi Yokoyama. 

As Yokoyama further disclosed, it all started with a conversation with a customer, who shared their own vision of what’s “beautiful.” Specifically, it is “something that combines strength, power, and style.” 

Initially, Yokoyama said that the customer’s answer was “hard to visualize.” It wasn’t until the customer showed the picture of the thoroughbred horse that the engineer caught a spark of inspiration for the Fronx, which he wanted to make look “strong, graceful, and beautiful.”

Suzuki further indicated that the design work for the Fronx started simultaneously in India and Japan. Multiple teams competed to design the crossover’s final template, and it turned out to be a vehicle boasting muscular fenders, a striking coupe-like silhouette, and a sleek, sporty profile. 

All the while, Suzuki made sure that the Fronx is family-friendly despite being a five-seater. Specifically, the brand provided the ride with ample space for its rear seating and a well-insulated cabin that is quiet enough for normal human conversation.

Suzuki Fronx: PH specs

In the Philippines, the all-new Suzuki Fronx has a price ranging from P1.059 million-P1.299 million across three variants. 

For its top-spec SGX trim, the Suzuki-made nameplate uses a 1.5-liter K15C inline-4 gasoline engine paired with a 12-volt hybrid system comprising an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery. At maximum, the said powertrain can generate up to 98 horsepower (hp) and 135 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. Power is sent to its front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the higher-spec trims of the Suzuki Fronx feature synthetic leather upholstery, automatic air conditioning, and 60:40 split-folding rear seats. Its driver, meanwhile, has access to the following amenities:

• 4.2-inch LCD display with analog gauges
• Paddle shifters
• Hand-operated parking brake

Safety-wise, the Suzuki Fronx comes with a comprehensive basic kit, supported by advanced driver-assist systems, including lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alert, among others.
