Toyota Avanza: What to expect?

Toyota Philippines has got two MPVs to offer in the market - Innova and Avanza. While the Innova has been doing pretty well thanks to its updated design and features, its younger sibling has been around in the market with the same set of clothes for quite some time now. This puts it in a critical situation as people tend to avoid buying outdated cars. To make sure that the Avanza stays in the competition, Toyota has almost brought the 2019 model in the Philippines.

The 2019 Toyota Avanza was launched in our neighbouring country Indonesia, earlier this year. And now, it’s time for us to see how the new model is compared to the outgoing one. Here are the things that you can expect to see on the new 2019 Toyota Avanza.

Revamped front fascia

We have said this numerous times and we are pointing it out once again that the front fascia of a car plays a significant role in the car’s overall appearance and styling. Toyota has revamped the front end of the new Avanza to refresh things a bit hoping to entice more customers. Gone are the large and bulky headlamps, they are replaced with a pair of sleek and modern-looking headlights which come in a split-type setup. The thick chrome grille that joins the headlamps makes the car look bold and masculine. This new front design is similar to what we have seen on the Toyota Vellfire. The front grille of the new Avanza seems to be inspired by Lexus cars. Also, the curves and creases on the front bumper are more enhanced, and as a result, add a bit of sportiness to the car. Overall, the Avanza looks refreshed, updated, and a bit wider than before.

Updated rear end

Toyota has also changed the taillights on the new 2019 Avanza so that the rear end of the new car matches the revisited front end. The new taillights are actually sleeker than the old ones but the part that attaches to the boot makes them look wider. Another interesting element at the back is the thick horizontal chrome strip that joins the two taillights. This adds a bit of premium-ness to the MPV. Toyota has also changed the rear bumper a bit as it is now sportier and gels with the shape of the tailgate.

Interior features

Toyota didn’t really change much on the inside of the new 2019 Avanza. We are expecting to see a similar black/grey and beige theme with good cabin space. The quality of the materials used should be the same as well. Features like steering mounted audio controls, push to start/stop button, touch screen infotainment system, etc. would continue to be available, but perhaps, on the higher end models only. We would also like to see the inclusion of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in the new Avanza. Also, maybe things like a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearknob would sound interesting to buyers.

Powertrain

The new 2019 Toyota Avanza specs are most likely to remain the same. It would continue to offer the much-familiar 1.3 and 1.5-litre engines that produce 95 PS/121 NM and 103 PS/136 Nm respectively. As far as the transmission options are concerned, they should be the same as well - a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic unit.

Safety features

Toyota products are undeniably very safe and reliable but we did have a few complaints about the safety features that were implemented on the outgoing Avanza. We are hoping that Toyota would improve the safety standards on the 2019 Avanza by adding more safety peculiarities.

So, these were some of the features that you can expect to find on the upcoming Avanza. Whatever information that we have right now and considering the Indonesian-spec model, the new Avanza will be more like a facelift. There is no official confirmation regarding the 2019 Toyota Avanza price by the company but it is being said that the starting price would be around Php 731,000.
