Toyota Wigo - Top alternatives
We recently did a story about Mitsubishi Xpander vs Toyota Avanza where we mentioned that the growing number of cars on the roads doesn’t really affect the demand of 7-seater MPVs in the country. So, if you aren’t one of those MPV people, and want to have a hatchback to drive in our crowded streets, then this is the right article for you.
Toyota Wigo has been around in the Philippines for quite some time now and it has its own bunch of satisfied customers. Even today, the Wigo proves to be a good hatchback that will keep you happy.
Toyota Wigo specs give you a small 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine with 66 PS and 89 Nm of torque on tap. The Wigo is pretty light, physically and on your pocket. It has funky looks and decent interior with comfortable seats. You will enjoy driving it in the city. But if you are looking for its alternatives, keep on reading.
Suzuki Celerio
Just like the Wigo, the Celerio has also been serving duties in the country for quite some time now. Suzuki hasn’t really given this little car a worthy update in a long time. The Celerio continues to wear its simple looks - both on the outside and inside.
Under its hood is a similar 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine that churns out 68 PS of power and 90 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed MT but you can also get the CVT. Suzuki says that this engine is capable of returning a fuel efficiency of 19 kmpl.
Suzuki Celerio price for the manual variant is Phop 558,000 whereas the CVT will set you back by Php 598,000. It is available in 6 color options.
Honda Brio
Move up the price ladder by a bit and you will find the Honda Brio. And Honda did a great job in converting this cute little hatchback into an aggressive and more mature-looking car. Powering it is a new 1.2-litre engine that produces 90 PS and 110 Nm of torque. Only the Brio’s base model gets a manual gearbox, others get a CVT.
The interior of the Brio is finished in an all-black theme with comfortable seats. There’s a 7-in touch screen infotainment unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The 3-spoke steering wheel is decent to hold and provides good feedback.
Honda Brio price starts at Php 598,000 for its base model. And if you are really its fanboy, you can even go for the RS variant that retails at Php 735,000.
Kia Picanto
If you want something fancier, sportier, and more modern-looking, then you can go with the Kia Picanto. It is available in 4 variants, 2 engine options, 2 transmission options, and 11 different colour options! Some of Picanto’s key features include-
- Unique front grille
- U-shaped LED DRLs
- Sporty alloy wheels
- 7-in touch screen audio w/ Bluetooth, Android Auto, Apple
- CarPlay
- Rear camera display with static guidelines
Kia Picanto price for its most affordable base model is Php 590,000 but you will miss out on many cool features in this model. So at least consider the LX AT or EX MT variant that retails at Php 635,000 and Php 700,000 respectively.
Are there any other cars that can be considered?
Ans. Well, these were the top alternatives to the Toyota Wigo. Apart from them, you can also look at Kia Soluto, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Chevrolet Spark. However, we would also like to tell you that there are certain compact sedans available in the market that are priced very aggressively and you can consider them too.
For example, Suzuki Dzire is one such compact sedan. Its most affordable GA MT variant (Php 549,900) is even cheaper than the base model of the Toyota Wigo (Php 557,000). But, of course, this variant would have limited features.
Some of the key features of Suzuki Dzire are-
- 1.2-litre engine w/ 83 PS and 113 Nm
- 5-speed MT / AGS
- European design and styling
- Improved interior
- 7-in multimedia audio system
- 378-litre boot space
So, would you with one of the aforementioned hatchback or consider buying a compact sedan?
