Volvo is targeting 30 % market share with the XC40
MANILA: The XC40 has been available in the Philippines since November 2018, albeit in just one variant and limited quantity. Fret not anymore, Volvo, the Swedish automaker has introduced the XC40 SUV in three models and six different colors. With the move, Volvo aims at grabbing around 30 % of the market share in the small premium SUV segment.
The XC40, as Volvo claims, has been designed around the challenges of modern city life and tries to provide the customer with a pleasant daily commute. The SUV won both European and Japanese car of the year awards in 2018 and is equipped with top-notch safety and features.
The Volvo XC40 is underpinned by the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) and includes tech from Scalable Product Architecture (SPA). Among numerous top-of-the-line safety features, run-off road protection and mitigation, cross traffic alert with auto brake, and 360-degree camera are to name a few. On the inside, there is the Volvo’s SENSUS infotainment system which features a portrait touchscreen.
Talking of the power under the hood, the Philippine-spec Volvo XC40 comes with two engine options. First is the D3 which is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine churning out a maximum power of 152 PS and 320 Nm of peak torque. The top speed with this engine is 200 kmph,
and a 0-100 kmph can be knocked down in 9.9 seconds. On the other hand, the second engine is the T5, a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder direct-injected turbo engine producing 251 PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 350 Nm. The top speed goes up to 230 kmph, and the 0-100 kmph run takes a mere 6.5 seconds. Irrespective of the engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission unit takes care of delivering the power to the wheels.
XC40 D3 Momentum at Php 3,350,000, XC40 D3 R-Design at Php 3,495,000, and XC40 T5 AWD R-Design Php 3,895,000 are the three models. They are available in Crystal White, Bursting Blue, Onyx Black, Osmium Gray, Fusion Red, and Bright Silver color options.
