Here is a quick look at Suzuki XL7 Hybrid sole option in PH

Suzuki Philippines Incorporated’s automotive arm has been updating its lineup by equipping its notable nameplates with the company’s mild-hybrid powertrain technology, like the recently launched Dzire Hybrid. 

On that note, the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid’s beefier brother — the XL7 Hybrid — was introduced locally in the early months of 2024. Its arrival provided fans of the small car specialist a more robust-looking seven-seater that packs a slightly sustainable, gasoline-fed mill. 

To help those eyeing the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), here is a quick look at what its sole GLX AT variant will offer hopeful car buyers. 

First, here are its measurements:

At a glance, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT offers noticeable road presence thanks to its striking exterior. However, owners can still enjoy ease of maneuverability thanks to its city-friendly dimensions.

For comparison’s sake, here’s how it stacks up against the Mitsubishi Xpander:

That said, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid — versus the segment leader’s range-topping GLS AT variant — is: 

• Length: 145 mm shorter 
• Height: 40 mm lower 
• Wheelbase: 35 mm shorter
• Ground clearance: 25 mm lower

As a result, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT appeals to most city dwellers as it takes up less parking space and can easily squeeze through tight traffic. 

Exterior 

At the fore, the Suzuki XL7 GLX AT boasts an aggressive character thanks to its bold honeycomb grille flanked by LED headlamps with an automatic feature. Its lower grille features long horizontal slats bordered by chunky housings for its fog lamps. A durable-looking skid plate rounds up the notable appointments on its fascia. 

To its side are blacked-out claddings on the wheel arches and on the side sills. It also gets decent-sized step boards, reinforcing its somewhat outdoorsy character. 

Complementing the aforementioned appointments are black pillars and a pair of sturdy-looking roof rails. The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT rides on 16-inch wheels wrapped in 195/60 series tires. 

At the back, the ruggedly handsome MPV packs a third brake lamp integrated into its roof, a good-sized glass surrounded by black trims, a black garnish on its tailgate, two fierce-looking LED taillamps, reflectors on each of its cheeks, and a bumper with a skid plate. 

Interior, tech

The cabin of the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT bears some form of resemblance to that of the Ertiga Hybrid, the author’s full review, here. 

Welcoming the driver is a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a flat bottom design. The wheel has multi-functional buttons as well as a silver trim at the bottom. It sits proudly on a dashboard with silver accents as well as a combination of wooden and silver trims, which adds a touch of class to the interior. 

Past the said steering wheel is a new, stylish, and sporty meter cluster that combines analog gauges with a small digital screen. This is accompanied by a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity as well as Apple Carplay and Android Auto for smartphone integration. 

When it comes to comfort, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT packs fabric seats that offer decent bolstering and cushioning. The second and third row seating can be folded flat to accommodate larger luggage. 

It has an automatic air conditioning system with rear vents that can be controlled manually. A pollen filter is offered as standard issue equipment to ensure improved air quality in the cabin. 

Powertrain, chassis 

Under the hood of the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with the company’s mild-hybrid technology. It is mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and produces the following figures:

Its hybrid technology employs a 12-volt battery with a capacity of 0.12 kilowatt-hours and assists the overall powertrain system by producing some 2.3 hp. 

When it comes to halting and deceleration, the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT uses ventilated disc brakes at the fore with trailing and leading drum brakes at the rear. It relies on Mac Pherson strut bars at the front and a torsion beam suspension setup at the back with coil springs. 

Safety 

The Suzuki XL7 Hybrid GLX AT is offered with the following safety features:

• Anti-lock braking 
• Electronic stability control 
• Hill-hold control 
• Rear parking sensors 
• Reverse camera 

Final thoughts 

The sole variant of the Suzuki XL7 Hybrid offers would-be owners a tough-looking MPV without the steep price tag. It is priced at P1.252 million with a two-tone paint option adding some P10,000 to the sticker value.
