2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gets a 5-star from NHTSA
MANILA: The highly anticipated 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross nabs a perfect 5-star rating from the most recent set of crash-testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Having performed well in all categories of the said assessment, Mitsubishi’s latest SUV could well be one of the safest sub-compact sport utility vehicles on the market today. This is why it’s no surprise to see Mitsubishi Motors continue to earn global recognition.
2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Safety Rating
The latest test results announced by Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) and released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) proves that the 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a roadworthy SUV. Not only did it redefine the Eclipse moniker but it also redefined road safety overall.
The 2020 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross scored a total of five-stars on the frontal crash test. The said rating combines NHTSA’s frontal crash test results rating the safety of the vehicle on both the front driver side, where it scored four stars and the front passenger side, where it scored five stars. The test is evaluated by simulating a head-on collision between two similar vehicles at a speed of 35 mph.
Also tested for side crash, the 2020 Eclipse Cross passed the evaluation with flying colours. The aforementioned test combines the side barrier and side pole star tests. The side barrier simulates an intersection collision of a moving barrier and a vehicle standing still at a speed of 38.5 mph. Side pole star tests, on the other hand, simulates a crash into a fixed object.
The 2020 Eclipse Cross scored a total of four stars on the rollover resistance test that calculates the risk of rollover in a scenario where the vehicle loses control.
Safety Redefined
Apart from showcasing how well the new Eclipse Cross was built, the test also showed several safety technologies that will keep drivers and pedestrians safe from accidents. These safety features include Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Crash Imminent Braking which are all optional upgrades.
The said features are safety technologies that meet NHTSA’s performance criteria through NHTSA verification and reports submitted by MMNA.
