GAC M8 PHEV makes its way to Malaysia Auto Show 2025, PH official launch ‘soon’

MANILA: Soon after GAC Motor Philippines previewed the M8 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) at the recently held Manila International Auto Show 2025, the said electrified multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) made its debut at the ongoing Malaysia Auto Show 2025. 

The GAC M8 PHEV is said to be the first flagship hybrid MPV in Malaysia, where it is — much like the presented Philippine-market model — powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a 25.57 kilowatt-hour battery and a dedicated hybrid transmission system. 

Further, the Malaysian-market GAC M8 PHEV makes the following performance figures: 

Combined maximum power output (in horsepower)	366
Combined maximum torque (in Newton-meters)	630
Overall estimated range (in kilometers)	120

 

“The GAC M8 PHEV is more than just a new entrant in the premium MPV segment. It redefines what a modern MPV should be,” WTC Automotive (GAC Motor distributor in Malaysia) Chief Executive Officer Tan Keng Meng was quoted saying.

Visitors of the Malaysia Auto Show 2025 are now able to place in orders for the GAC M8 PHEV. 

As for Filipino car buyers… 

GAC M8 PHEV in PH 

The local launch of the GAC M8 PHEV is expected to come around in the third quarter of the year. 

During which, the electrified family vehicle will have a projected price tag of around P4.3 million. 

“Introducing the M8 PHEV at MIAS marks an important step in our journey to bring more intelligent and sustainable mobility solutions to the Philippines,” Astara Philippines (local distributor of GAC Motor vehicles in the Philippines) Country Manager Luis Torres said in a press release. 

“This model represents the kind of innovation GAC is now known for — smart, refined, and aligned with the needs of today’s Filipino drivers,” he noted. 

The Philippine model will have the following notable features: 

Exterior

• Awakening Eye LED headlamps
• Lion-like front grille 
• Time Gate taillights 
• GAC Emblem surrounded with blue color 

Interior 

• Seating for seven 
• Plush leather upholstery 
• Chairs with 10-point massage function
