Geely to bring EM-i hybrid tech to PH

It is possible that it will debut in the EX5.In a statement, Geely Motor Philippines (GMP) noted that the new system aims squarely at two major pain points: high fuel costs and range anxiety.
According to the brand’s local arm, the plug-in hybrid system was engineered from the ground up — not adapted from a conventional combustion vehicle. This results in higher efficiency and stronger performance.
The system features a hybrid-specific engine with 46.5-percent thermal efficiency, which, according to the company, is the highest among all mass-produced engines worldwide.

In addition, the EM-i Super Hybrid extracts more usable energy from fuel, cutting consumption and emissions in the process.
The powertrain is paired with an 11-in-1 E-DHT, allowing it to deliver a combined fuel economy of about 41.67 kilometers per liter (kpl), based on the Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure. Even in charge-sustaining mode, it maintains around 23.25 kpl. With a full tank and a fully charged battery, the system enables a driving range of over 1,000 kilometers.
Charging downtime remains minimal. The Short Blade LFP battery can recharge from 30 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes. It is also engineered to withstand extreme heat and water exposure — including seawater immersion.
Geely also developed backup systems that allow the vehicle to maintain operation even if one power source encounters an issue.
The EM-i Super Hybrid technology will possibly debut on the EX5, which is expected to be out within the first quarter of 2026.
