Hyundai Ioniq 5 N hailed as “Performance Car of the Year” at 2024 China COTY

MANILA: The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N high-performance electric vehicle (EV) has been named the “Performance Car of the Year” at the 2024 China Car of the Year (China COTY) awards. 

The Ioniq 5 N, which the panel of judges praised for its performance, was initially a  China COTY top 10 finalist in the “Performance Car of the Year” category in November 2024. Later onwards, it beat out its other two competitors - a Lynk & Co and a Mercedes-Benz model - for the top spot. 

Per the 48-strong panel of judges comprised of automotive journalists and key opinion leaders, the initial pool of candidates consisted of 112 car models across seven categories. As such, the Ioniq 5 N’s victory underscores its good qualities as a performance car and the South Korean car brand’s significant strides in terms of innovation. 

“Hyundai N made its debut in the Chinese market last year and has actively showcased the company’s high-performance electrification technology through the launch of Ioniq 5 N this year,” Vice President and Head of China N Brand Business Group Yong Il Yin said. 

“Moving forward, we will continue to expand the unique and exciting experiences offered by the Hyundai N brand to strengthen our position in the Chinese market,” Yin added. 

In the Philippines, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N was introduced at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show. Currently, its sole locally available variant is priced at P4.25 million. 

Propelling the high-performance EV unit is a dual-motor setup capable of outputting 641 horsepower and 770 Newton-meters of torque. The Hyundai N model can also cover a range of 448 kilometers from a single full charge. 

While designed for driving enjoyment, the Ioniq 5 N also has plenty of safety bits and creature comforts. It has a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assist systems, a trunk space of 480 liters, automatic air-conditioning, and a pair of 12.3-inch digital displays - among others.
