Mazda MX-5 R-Sport Special Edition unwrapped

MANILA: As the most successful two-seater roadster in the world begins its fourth decade on the market, Mazda UK has introduced the Mazda MX-5 R-Sport Special Edition. Limited to only 150 units, the MX-5 Convertible features a gray soft-top hood and Polymetal Grey metallic paint. The 16-inch Rays gunmetal alloy wheels finish the unique exterior appearance of this special edition.

The Polymetal Grey color is a new version to the 2020 Mazda MX-5 lineup, and it is paired to piano black wing mirrors on the R-Sport. Furthermore, the interior of the R-Sport includes burgundy Nappa leather seats with silver stitching to guarantee that the interior has the same tailor-made look as the exterior. Based on the 1.5-liter 132ps Skyactiv-G Sport Trim MX-5, the MX-5 R-Sport a prime example of the long tradition of Mazda UK in terms of providing limited volume MX-5s.

Customers will now be able to sign up for their interest in the Mazda MX-5 R-Sport online, and UK deliveries will commence once the current retail constraints are over.

According to Mazda Motors UK managing director Jeremy Thomson, the company is thankful that they can provide a unique MX-5 Convertible model to their customers. As the MX-5 R-Sport joins the line-up of the RF and Convertible models of the auto company, customers will have a remarkable option of MX-5s in their updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 range. This means that everyone who wants to drive a stylish and exceptional roadster can discover what they need in the Mazda MX-5 R-Sport model.

Being based on the 1.5-liter Sport, the regular equipment list of the R-Sport includes climate control, heated seats, cruise control, Android Auto and AppleCarPlay, and navigation.

As an added feature to the R-Sport, the updated 2020 Mazda MX-5 range also consists of a 10-model lineup made up of six RFs and four convertibles. The 132ps, 1.5-liter Convertible is provided in SE-Land Sport trim, while the 184ps, 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine is paired to the new range-topping GT Sport Tech and Sport Tech trim.

As for the Convertible, the SE-Land Sport Trim RF features a 1.5-liter engine. The GT Sport Tech and Sport Tech both come with more reliable 2.0-liter engine. Moreover, 2.0-liter RFs in two trim levels include the option of selecting an automatic gearbox.

Additional features on the 2020 Mazda MX-5's GT Sport Tech trim are burgundy Nappa leather seats, and BBS alloy wheels.

The MX-5 includes driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, rear smart city brake support, lane departure warning system, and front smart city brake support. Adaptive LED headlights, a reversing camera, and blind spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the GT Sport Tech and Sport Tech models.

It retains the same high-quality mechanical setup and chassis as the 1.5-liter Sport MX-5. Thanks to the lightness of the MX-5, performance has not been compromised at the cost of effectiveness. It is also armed with features like the i-ELOOP, stop-start technology, and i-stop kinetic recovery of Mazda.

Thomson also pointed out that in terms of driver engagement, the latest version MX-5 has already proven itself as a flagship sports car. With the 2020 Mazda MX-5 and the current R-Sport special edition, Mazda will continually introduce impressive vehicles.

The MX-5 is regarded as an icon of the Mazda brand. The enjoyable driving character of the MX-5 has reinforced the connection between Mazda and its customers for more than 30 years. The 2020 model maintains this commitment of Mazda in providing an attractive, entertaining, and top-notch sports car. Meanwhile, the R-Sport continues the long history of Mazda in providing distinctly styled yet cost-efficient, limited-edition models.
