Philippine Jimnys not affected by the recall, says Suzuki PH
MANILA: Last week, Suzuki Japan recalled an unknown number of units of the newest iteration of the Jimny produced between 11 May 2018 and 12 March 2019. Moreover, the serial number of these units range from JB64W-100092 to JB64W-121516. The recall also left the Philippine Jimny owners in disarray. Filipinos bombarded Suzuki Philippines with queries regarding the recall as soon as the announcement was made by the automaker.
A week later, there is good news coming in for us. Suzuki Philippines has cleared all the doubts and concerns by releasing an official statement on the topic. “The recall campaign for the All-New Jimny is for Japan domestic market only. This does not affect, in any way, the model that is being offered by Suzuki Philippines, Inc (SPH)", reads the official statement.
The small 4x4s running on the Philippine roads can't be a part of the recall. Reason being the units recalled house the 660cc three-cylinder turbocharged engine, which is a Japan-exclusive. Suzuki said that the crossovers powered by the 1.5-litre K15B engine have no fuel leakage issues whatsoever. With that said, the Filipinos who already own or are looking to get themselves a Suzuki Jimny should be feeling relaxed now. However, the weather inside the Suzuki facilities in Japan must not be too well as a recall never helps in boosting the sales figures.
In case you are still unfamiliar with the all-new Suzuki Jimny, the crossover has been making waves in the country ever since its launch. Moreover, even its newest iteration, the 4x4 keeps the retro boxy silhouette intact. Powering the female favourite 4x4 is a 1.5-litre K15B engine that churns out 102 PS of maximum power and 130 Nm of peak torque. Customers can choose either of the five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission.
Another recall that has hit the Philippine shores concerns the Toyota Rush. Toyota is recalling the SUV due to an inappropriately programmed airbag control module. Thus, if you are one of the many Toyota Rush owners in the Philippines and haven't received a call from the dealership yet, you might want to visit the service centre with your SUV sooner than later.
