Suzuki PH formally launches Fronx

MANILA: Suzuki Philippines Incorporated has formally launched the Fronx crossover. 

To recall, the new nameplate made its local debut at the previously held Suzuki Matsuri festival at the SM Mall of Asia. 

The newest offering from the Japanese carmaker is produced by its subsidiary in Indonesia and comes to the market in three variants: 

• Suzuki Fronx GL-4 AT
• Suzuki Fronx GLX-4 AT Hybrid 
• SGX-6AT Hybrid with Suzuki Safety Support 

Touted as a crossover for people who prefer the strong character of a sport utility vehicle with modern appeal, functionality, and safety for everyday driving, the Suzuki Fronx looks to compete with similarly-sized models, such as the Toyota Raize and Kia Sonet.

Here's what customers can have with the new Suzuki Fronx

Suzuki Fronx features 

Exterior 

The Suzuki Fronx brings with it a modern and athletic styling characterized by a strong fascia with a double fender design. Its fore is equipped with a somewhat stylish black grille with a chrome garnish at the center where the Suzuki “S” emblem sits. Flanking the shiny applique are LED daytime running lights. 

On its cheeks are split-style LED headlamps, which, according to Suzuki Philippines Incorporated, have been positioned lower to eliminate the need for fog lamps. As an added bonus, the automaker believes that it gives the crossover a stronger front look. 

The lower air vents are designed with large horizontal slats, while its chin is covered by a skid plate to complete its “rugged” look. 

Its side profile is highlighted by a strong shoulder line — reinforced by black claddings found on the wheel arches. For a cohesive look, it also sports black coverings on the bottom portions of the doors. The side sill garnishes combine the durable dark-hued plastics and a metallic trim to mimic the look of the front skid plate. 

Some black pillars, topped with a black roof, round up the look of the Suzuki Fronx. It also has some roof rails for a more utilitarian look. 

It rides on a set of 16-inch wheels with a polished two-tone design shod in 196/65 series tires. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line variant comes with a more appealing monotone finish. 

At the back, the crossover gets a sporty spoiler mounted on the roof coupled with an integrated third brake lamp for added visibility. The ample-sized rear glass comes with its own wiper and is nestled on a decent-sized tailgate. 

Striking are its LED taillamps connected by an LED light bar. Some rear reflectors add some level of safety and character to the vehicle, and a back skid plate that at first glance might appear to be too large.

Interior 

The cabin of the Suzuki Fronx looks smart and modern — a welcome duality for many car buyers. 

Welcoming the driver as well as the passengers are seats that sport seam lines and stitches that create a three-dimensional and slightly luxurious appearance. For those picking the range-topping variant, some synthetic leather upholstery on the door panels, as well as piano black accents on the air conditioning control panel and lovers, are merited. 

On the other hand, the mid-range model sports faux carbon fiber accents on the abovementioned trims. 

Across the range, silver appliques can be found on the dashboard.

Powertrain 

Under the hood of the Suzuki Fronx is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The base grade runs on a naturally aspirated powerplant, while the GLX and SGX variants have mild-hybrid technology. 

In the same fashion, the entry-level model uses a four-speed automatic transmission while the others are endowed with a six-speed slushbox.

Suzuki Safety Support 

One of the highlights of the Suzuki Fronx is the introduction of the brand’s suite of safety features, dubbed the Suzuki Safety Support. 

Available for the top-grade variant, it offers the following technologies: 

• Front camera, which recognizes objects in front as well as the lane or road boundaries 
• Front radar, which measures the distance, direction, and relative speed of the objects, and transmits the data to the  front camera
• Sensors on both sides of the rear bumper 
• Dual-sensing brake support system 
• Blind spot monitoring 
• Active cruise control
• Lane departure warning 
• Lane departure prevention 
• Lane keep assist 
• Weaving alert 
• Automatic high beam 
• Rear crossing traffic alert
