This is how you cut down fuel consumption, the Ford Territory way

MANILA: Fuel prices have been on the rise and driving economically (which goes hand in hand with car efficiency-related technologies) has become a very important tool that should be in everyone's arsenal these days.

With that, Ford Philippines shared some tips on how to trim down expenses while on the road using the Territory — a sport utility vehicle (SUV) powered by an EcoBoost engine with Auto-Start/Stop feature and mated to a seven-speed wet-type dual clutch automatic transmission.

Avoid jackrabbiting

Hard braking as well as accelerating directly affect fuel consumption. 

To avoid increased consumption, always observe the traffic around and react early and smoothly by accelerating slower, coasting early, and braking gently.

The Blue Oval marque’s local arm noted that motorists should avoid putting the vehicle to Neutral on downhills as aside from being dangerous, the Ford Territory has a smart shift logic that puts the drive into the most efficient gear.

Also, the vehicle’s Stop/Start function — when engaged — helps the driver reduce the amount of fuel used when coming to a full stop.

Cruise control, which can be found on specific Ford Territory variants, can control the accelerator, transmission, and brakes during long drives — that would guarantee improved fuel usage and smoother drives.

Follow service schedules

To ensure that their vehicles are in tip-top shape, owners must stick to their service schedule. Not following the service calendar might cause their vehicles to work harder that, in turn, could take a toll on fuel efficiency.

Check tires

Always check if your tires are still in the best condition as they affect both fuel economy and performance.

Under-inflated or worn-out tires can increase their rolling resistance, which could lead the vehicle to harder brakes and harsher accelerations. In addition, Ford Territory owners can easily follow the recommended tire pressure (which can be seen on the placard placed at the door jamb), thanks to the tire pressure monitoring system that alerts drivers should there be a need for adjustment.

Weight and aerodynamics

Loading unnecessary items onto the vehicle weighs down the vehicle, meaning that one is only transporting extra weight whenever you drive.

While most vehicles have standard-fit roof rails to carry racks and carriers, it is recommended to only put them only when needed as the aforementioned items cause added encumbrance to the vehicle as well as drag.

Weather and cabin climate condition

The way we use the air-conditioning system in our vehicles also affects fuel consumption too. To ensure your climate system is working as efficiently as it can, take advantage of the vehicle’s auto climate control, which makes sure that the desired temperature settings are reached in the most efficient way possible.

Whenever possible, always park the vehicle in the shade. This would keep the vehicle’s cabin cooler and does not need to work harder when the drive is about to start. Invest in a good-quality sunshade too, if possible.
