This life-size Honda Civic Type-R Lego model has 320,000 bricks

MANILA: Life-size Lego models have been trending lately. This time, Honda, the Japanese automaker has built a Civic Type-R using Lego bricks. Thanks to the enormous effort put in by some professional Lego builders, this plastic replica of the much loved Civic Type-R looks hot.

Ryan McNaught, who is a Certified Professional Lego builder, said, “We’ve loved the challenge of this project. The car is shaped with a considerable amount of curved lines, making it a tough but interesting build. From the working lights and indicators to intricate LEGO® Honda logos, the detail on the model has been a fun one for us to work on”.

What makes this replica even special is that Honda went on to use conventional Lego bricks in order to achieve the shape of the hot hatch. While Honda could have used Lego commission special pieces and made their work easier, the automaker went the other way. As a result, a total of over 1,300 man hours went into the project which features more than 320,000 Lego bricks. Hold on, as this is a special replica, the whole model is not just about the plastic bricks. There is also a steel frame on the inside that provides the structure with the much-needed strength.

To give the model a shape that would be as close to the real Civic Type-R, the Lego builders used CAD designs and even a real-life hatch to keep a check on their hard work. Not only this model has a close to the real-life appearance of the Civic Type-R, but it also features some amazing stuff like hazard warning lights, headlights, daytime running lights, and even fog lights, taillights. Yes, all these electricals work and can be controlled via an application that is installed on an iPad.

The total weight of this model is around 1,300-kg. However, Honda hasn’t yet disclosed whether or not this replica houses an engine inside of it. Honda Australia will be showcasing this life-size Lego model of the Civic Type-R at Lego Masters show on 28th April 2019 in Australia itself. We can only hope for Honda Australia to let its and Lego fanboys from other countries to have a glimpse of this astonishing model.
