Hiace Super Grandia is safe as a house with the Toyota Safety Sense

MANILA: As soon as Toyota organised the global launch of the 2019 Hiace in the Philippines, we had set our eyes on the arrival of the luxurious version of the van, i.e., the Hiace Super Grandia. Finally, the Japanese automaker put an end to the wait and excitement by launching the plusher Hiace in the country earlier this week.

We have already discussed the launch of the van and how Toyota is targetting 400 sales every month. In this story, our focus will be on the Safety aspect of the Hiace Super Grandia as it is the first Toyota model for the Philippines to arrive with the tech.

It's not that other Toyota cars in the Philippines are not safe, but with the Toyota Safety Sense or TSS, the safety quotient on the Hiace Super Grandia is a notch above the rest. The testament of the fact is the five-star safety rating awarded to the van by ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program). Along with the regular safety equipment like multiple SRS airbags, ABS with EBD & BA,

traction control, and stability control, the Toyota Safety Sense also equips the 2019 Hiace Super Grandia with the likes of Pre-collision System (PCS), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), which can also be called adaptive cruise control.

Let's start with the adaptive cruise control, or shall we say Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). We all are probably familiar with what conventional cruise control is, right? While the latter keeps the car running at a constant speed, the adaptive cruise control, on the other hand, varies the speed of the vehicle based on the conditions outside. These conditions include vehicles ahead of the car. Hence, if the vehicle ahead of the car slows down, the TSS will reduce the speed of the Toyota car automatically and vice versa.

Moving on to the Pre-collision System (PCS), this tech is also called automatic emergency braking (AEB). PCS detects vehicles and objects in front of the car and warns the driver to apply the brakes as the two vehicles start getting closer to each other. In case the driver does not react in time, the PCS automatically applies the brakes. Let’s have a look at the Lane Departure Alert (LDA) now. This safety feature warns the driver as soon as the vehicle crosses its lane.

LDA not only helps in staying in the lane but also reduces the risk of getting off the road and colliding with vehicles in other lanes. Lastly, we have the Automatic High Beam (AHB). The AHB keeps the headlamps in the low-beam position when there are vehicles in the opposite lane and switches to high-beam when the road ahead in the opposite lane is empty. So, how did you like the Toyota Safety Sense? It certainly makes driving the 2019 Toyota Hiace Super Grandia all that more fun and safe, right?
