Introducing, 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

MANILA:  Mitsubishi Motors Philippines (MMPC) finally unveiled the new 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport variants and its official prices for preorder.

The Japanese car manufacturer unveiled two variants, Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS 2WD AT priced at PhP1,769,000 and the Mitsubishi Montero Sport GT 2WD AT valued at PhP1,998,000.

Under the hood, the new 2020 Montero Sport still runs on the same 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder with dual overhead camshafts, 16-valves turbodiesel engine that can produce 181 PS at 3,500 rpm of power and 430 Nm at 2,500 rpm of torque. The direct injection clean diesel engine with Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) and Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) is matched with the usual eight-speed automatic transmission for optimum performance and fuel economy.

What is new in the 2020 model is the SUV’s look. Specifically, the overhauled grille and bolder bumper design similar to the Mitsubishi Strada and Mitsubishi Xpander MPV. Most prominent on the design change is found on the rear. Specifically, the teardrop taillight design now made shorter. The brake and signal light also swapped places in the refreshed model which allows for increased visibility. A smoke finish to its LED taillights exudes a more sophisticated look. Rear spoiler now comes standard. So is the shark fin antenna that combines the radio and navigation antennas.

Inside, the 2020 Montero Sport specs sheet gets an upgraded infotainment system and fascia. The new variants now come with an 8-inch TFT LCD instrument cluster that replaces the traditional gauges. The multi-function display is the first on the midsize SUV segment to feature such an amenity which adds a high-tech vibe to its interior.

Best of all, the new Montero Sport added some pretty neat safety features-- lane-change assist (LCA) and rear-cross traffic alert (RCTA).

The two models released for reservation means the basic GLX 2WD MT and the higher-end GT 4WD are missing. But according to MMPC, both the GLX 2WD MT and GT 4WD will be launch on a later date. Hopefully by the first quarter of 2020.
