Porsche expands EV SUV portfolio with Cayenne S

MANILA: Porsche has strengthened its electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) portfolio with the launch of the new Cayenne S.

The new model — the German carmaker pointed out — slots between the Cayenne Electric and the top-of-the-range Cayenne Electric Turbo variant.

“The new Cayenne S enriches the all-electric SUV lineup, offering a balanced mix of high performance, efficiency, and extensive equipment,” Porsche wrote in a press release.

Here are some of its standout features.

Electric powertrain

Powering the Porsche Cayenne S is a permanent magnet synchronous motor on both the front and rear axles. The electric motor dishes out some 536 horsepower (hp) and up to 656 horses with Launch Control.

The Porsche Cayenne S accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 250 kph. Its combined Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure range is up to 653 kilometers. 

Like the other two current Cayenne Electric models, the S variant features a high-voltage battery with a gross energy capacity of 113 kilowatts (kW), which, at up to 400 kW at a suitable fast-charging station, can be charged from 10 to 80 percent State of Charge in less than 16 minutes.

Oil-cooled rear motor

The Porsche Cayenne S has a rear-axle electric motor that uses direct oil cooling that helps dissipate heat directly from the current-carrying components for high continuous load and efficiency.

The pulse inverter on the rear axle uses silicon carbide as a semiconductor material and processes currents of up to 620 amperes.

Model-specific exterior appointments

Outside, the newest addition to Porsche’s electrified SUV roster is characterized by model-specific front and rear aprons in Volcano Grey Metallic, while the inserts and diffuser are painted in the same color as the vehicle’s body.

It rides on 20-inch Cayenne S Aero (aerodynamic) wheels.

Optional performance features

Helping provide drivers a dynamic experience are some elective features, such as the optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and the premium Porsche Active Ride suspension, which almost completely compensates for body movements and ensures exceptional driving stability.

Also available for the Porsche Cayenne S is the high-performance Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake system with yellow-painted brake calipers. 

Should more power be required, the Push-to-Pass function is available for drivers who call for an additional 120 hp, which lasts for about 10 seconds.

The built-in Track mode ensures maximum performance on track through targeted pre-conditioning of the battery.

Exclusive design

Would be owners who desire some level of exclusivity can order their Porsche Cayenne S with a “Director’s Cut” interior.

Things to expect would be the two-tone leather upholstery in Black and Delgada Green, which extends to the door trims and the 14-way adjustable comfort seats. Likewise, the seat belts will also be finished in the same color.

Delgada Green decorative stitching can also be found inside the cabin, as well as embroidered outline of the Porsche crest on the headrests.

Aluminum decorative trims, painted in Izabal Green, provide modern contrasts against the upholstered leather surfaces.

Its GT sports steering wheel also gets Delgada Green accents in the form of a 12 o'clock marking and cross stitching. An Izabal Green ring on the airbag module, and a knurled Drive Mode selection wheel in the same color, emphasize the distinctive styling.

Those who love timepieces will even find a sports chronograph stopwatch, as well as the dial of the compass and the power meter in the instrument cluster, topped with Izabal Green accents.

The vehicle key is also finished in Izabal Green and is presented in a case with decorative stitching in Delgada Green.
