The Ford Ranger FX4 gets 4x4 variants

MANILA: Among auto brands in the country, Ford Philippines already boasts the most pickup truck variants in its lineup with 15.

That number is now up to 17 with the addition of two 4x4 variants, a manual and an automatic, of the Ford Ranger FX4. In a release, Ford Philippines Managing Director PK Umashankar said, “The Ford Ranger FX4 4x4 is an exciting addition to our Ranger lineup as we continue to complement and enable a diverse range of customer needs and lifestyles. It is a fully loaded truck with a competitive pricing that will strengthen our position in the 4x4 pickup segment.”

He added that the 4x4 variants are expected to appeal to customers who want a legitimate off-roader to take on “challenging terrains and extreme road conditions.”

Rumbling under the hood is the familiar 2.2-liter Duratorq diesel engine that also motivates the FX4 4x2 variants, released locally last January. The power plant serves up 160ps and 385Nm, and is mated with either a six-speed manual or automatic.

The FX4 sports a black mesh grille with a blacked-out “Ranger” above it, and is given an extended black tubular sports bar. The two variants receive FX4-specific 18-inch black alloy wheels and black accents on the side mirror caps, door handles, front and rear bumpers, and fender features. Decals are on the lower part of the doors, plus a 3D badge on the tailgate.

In the cabin are additional FX4-specific touches such as FX4-embossed leather seats and floor mats, race red stitching on the soft-top instrument panel, center console, and door trims.

An eight-inch full-color touchscreen is the centerpiece of the pickup’s infotainment system, which is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Driver-assistive features include cruise control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, power folding mirrors, and electronic power-assist steering.

The new Ford Ranger FX4 4x4 variants will be available beginning September 25, and are priced at P1.356 million for the manual and P1.416 million for the automatic. The vehicle comes in five colors: Meteor Grey, Absolute Black, Aluminum Metallic, Arctic White, and True Red. Ford is extending a limited launch discount P50,000 discount on either vehicle.
