What to expect from the PH-spec 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

The 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport is now nearing its official launch in the Philippines. But what does the well-loved SUV has in store for the Filipinos. Read on.

Prior to its unveiling in Thailand, the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero Sport has been a highly anticipated vehicle. The SUV got its last update back in 2016, and tonight will witness the arrival of 2020 Montero Sport in the Philippines.

The newest offering from the Japanese carmaker has a fresh look, with tech amenities to match.

Exterior 

Looking at the front fascia, the refreshed Montero Sport has a great resemblance to its pick-up truck sibling, Strada, and the MPV Xpander. They all share the dynamic front shield design for its grille, and fog lamps that give them a futuristic look. The LED taillights have almost similar (operative word here is “almost”) as it has the same look as the previous version but they are were slightly reduced to make way for the new bumper design.

To be offered only on two variants (GT and GLS), the 2020 Mitsubishi Montero sits on 18-inch alloy wheels

Interior

For its inside features, the refreshed top-spec Mitsubishi Montero has a digital instrument panel that provides three display modes. At the center of the dashboard is the latest touchscreen infotainment ‘Smart Audio Display’ that has a navigational app and supports AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.
The sound system blasts through the six speakers and provides comforting tunes to match the elegant leather interiors. Since every trip is not complete with mobile devices out of juice, pair of USB charging ports in the rear has been fitted in the new Montero Sport.

Engine 

Just like its predecessor, the latest version of the all-new Mitsubishi Montero Sport has a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel inline-four with VGT and MIVEC mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with manual select that could deliver 178.4 horsepower and 430 Nm of torque.

However, this may sound like a disappointment to many, the six-speed manual, as well as the 4x4 variant, will not reach Philippine shores at the moment.

Features

2020 Montero Sport specs sheet includes following features - anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist (ABS-EBD-BA), brake override system, active stability, and traction control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer stability assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and speed-sensing door locks will come as standard for the latest offer. Six airbags are placed inside the top variants while dual front airbags only to the GLS.

Further, the latest PPV still has steering wheel audio and cruise controls, as well as a new multi-info display.

Pricing

2020 Montero Sport price starts at Php 1.769 million for the GLS while the Php1.998 million for the GT.
