Mio i 125: Top 3 things to know
The Yamaha Mio was first launched in the South East Asian market in 2003. Since then it has been a story of unbridled success. Yamaha used insights from their previous models and created a product that suited today’s riders just right. And this couldn’t have happened at a better time for Yamaha when the sales of two-wheelers in the country have gone up by as much as 8 to 12%. This is the highest among the ASEAN countries as well. Scooters are obviously at the forefront of this growth and the Mio i 125 has benefitted immensely from it.
Here are three facts about the Mio that make it so successful.
1. Cutting-edge engine technology
Mio utilises Yamaha’s Blue Core technology to improve engine performance. And the changes made go way-beyond from a fancy sticker. The said engine uses a DiASil cylinder and a piston cooler for up to 3 times faster cooling. A hemispherical combustion chamber helps in achieving complete fuel combustion. There are lighter forged pistons that reduce friction by minimising the loss of power in the engine. Additionally, it uses roller rocker arms for smoother engine operation. All these changes help this tiny 125 cc engine in achieving a peak torque output of 9.6 Nm at 5500 rpm. But this spirited performance does not come at the cost of mileage which is still impressive at 43 kmpl on city roads.
2. Inspired and captivating design
The prime focus of Mio i 125 are the young Filippino riders. To attract them Yamaha has made their product as trendy and appealing as possible. The Mio i 125 achieves this by creating its own design identity. The letter 'M' features extensively as a design element on the Mio. The front headlight surround and the grab rail at the rear look stunning. And they work brilliantly too. Yamaha has given Mio a very angular and aggressive look. Other elements include a slim profile and color schemes that appeal to both men and women.
3. Practical and modern features
Mio i 125 is loaded with thoughtful features especially relevant to the Philippines market. The stop-start system shuts down the engine whenever it remains idle for long. This helps in saving fuel and getting great mileage figures. The scooter also comes with a key shutter system that locks the keyhole, only to be opened by the other end of the key. Yamaha also realizes that there would be many of these scooters in any parking lot, making it very difficult to find yours. To solve this problem, the key has an integrated answer back system. It’s a button on the key which causes the scooter to beep and blink lights, making it easy to find.
Yamaha knows that they have a winner in their hands with the Mio i 125. Thankfully, Yamaha is not in the habit of resting on its laurels. They have continuously improved their product in ways that no other company would dare. The Mio then is here to stay for a very long time.
