Fording through the Everest - Variants explained
Ford is renowned for its fun-to-drive vehicles. Why? Well, even their SUVs retain this character. The mid-size Ford Everest is one such example - it's spacious, has character and presence, powerful engines, and is a hoot to drive. However, a quick glance at the Ford Philippines website will leave many confused. There are five variants on offer, and almost all look the same. We break it down for you in this extensive story.
Ford variant line-up of recent times starts with the Ambiente trim. This is followed by the Trend, and then the Titanium. The Titanium trim usually has sub-trims that offer add-on packages and carry a higher price tag. Ford has two engines to offer in the Everest. One is a 160PS generating 2.2-litre unit, the other is a 200PS 3.2-litre mill. Both are turbocharged diesel units.
The first selection step is simple. If you prefer 4x4 capability, then Ford offers it only with the larger engine and with an automatic transmission. This leaves the door open for the rest of the trims. Let’s begin then, shall we?
Ford Everest Ambiente 4x2 MT
This, as explained before, is the base trim and gets halogen headlights with manual on-off provision, front as well as rear fog lights, 17-inch alloys, body coloured front bumper, and rear with a skid plate and body colour door handle as well as a painted grille. The body colour ORVMs are minus the turn indicators, power operation, BLIS, heating or puddle lamps facility. The running board is done in plastic while the spoiler at the back is standard. The roof rail is done in black, and the liftgate applique is painted. The tail lamp too is non-LED. The cabin sees the driver as well as shotgun seats being manually adjustable, manually adjustable third row, urethane wrapped gear lever, steering wheel as well as parking brake. The infotainment system is handled by a 4-inch touchscreen system that has USB as well as AUX compatibility along with Bluetooth. Single zone AC, all four power windows, dual airbags and ABS along with EBD are also offered.
Ford Everest Ambiente 4x2 AT
Apart from offering a 6-speed automatic gearbox, this trim brings in Electronic Park control. All other features remain the same as the manual option.
Ford Everest Trend 4x2 AT
Apart from the features offered in the automatic Ambiente trim, Ford gives 18-inch alloys, halogen projector headlights, body coloured painted rear skid plate, turn indicator as well as power fold equipped ORVMs, painted roof rails, rain sensing wipers, chrome applique at the tailgate, DRLs and LED tail lights. Eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, two-way adjustable manual passenger seat, chrome inner door handle, leather wrapped gear shifter, and steering wheel. The cabin gets dual-zone automatic climate control, rear AC control, Gen 3 Sync-enabled music system with an 8-inch touchscreen system and 10 speakers, two additional airbags, rear park assist, cruise control, adjustable speed limiter, and Ford MyKey.
Ford Everest Titanium 4x2 AT
This is the one below the top-spec version but nearly has all the features that one would want in an SUV like the Everest. It comes with 20-inch alloys, chromed door handles and heated ORVMs, puddle lamps, BLIS, locking glove box, one-touch up-down driver, as well as passenger power window, electrochromic inner rear view mirror, driver knee airbag, front park, assist and a rearview camera.
Ford Everest Titanium 4x2 AT Premium Package
This trim is based on the Titanium but adds some niceties for a price. The list includes HID projector lamps, auto high beam, LED DRLs, 230V inverter, dual panel moonroof, powered tailgate, tyre pressure monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, collision mitigation as well as active park assist.
In our opinion, if you are planning to buy the Ford Everest, you should go for the Titanium trim. It costs Php 19.18 lakh whereas the Ambiente manual goes for Php 15.18 lakh, the automatic for Php 15.78 lakh and the Trend automatic for Php 17.18 lakh. The top spec optional Titanium trim goes for a good Php 20.58 lakh. Ford, however, offers certain trims of the Everest with specific colours. For example, the white, black, and metallic shades can be optioned with all four trims levels mentioned here while the red, grey, and blue will be available only with Titanium trim. The True Red can be ordered only with Ambiente and Trend.
