Faulty gearbox detected in 1000 units of Ford Ranger and Everest

MANILA: Detection of faulty parts after manufacturing is nothing new in the automobile industry. And making headlines this time around is Ford, the American car maker.

The issue has been found in fresh units of the Ford Ranger, Everest and, even in the 2018 Ranger Raptor pickup. The issue is in a specific batch of the Thai-manufactured units of the aforementioned vehicles. All three vehicles are fitted with Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission.

According to the sources, the root cause of the problem is a faulty batch of parts supplied for the 10-speed automatic unit. Ford’s inspection further revealed that the faulty parts had protrusions from the welding studs. And these protrusions affected the performance of the torque converters. The damage was so severe that it resulted in complete loss of drive.

The issue is supposed to be in 1000 units of the Ford Ranger, Everest, and the Ranger Raptor. Shipping and selling of these vehicles were immediately brought to halt once Ford found the problem with the gearbox. Most affected are the customers from Thailand and also from Australia, where Ford sold some of these Thai-manufactured units. Customers in Australia had already started encountering the symptoms.

Ford since has been proactive and has started shipping replacement parts for the faulty units. Commencement of shipping and selling of the Ford Everest, Ranger, and the Ranger Raptor is expected to commence soon once all replacements are done.
