Honda CR-V: Top alternatives

The latest generation Honda CR-V scores more points in all aspects when compared to its predecessor. The CR-V has always been an important product for Honda not just in the Philippines but in various other countries as well.

And in its all-new avatar, it makes sure it keeps Honda’s name alive in the SUV segment. The Honda CR-V price starts at Php 1.67 million for its base model and the SUV is now available in 7-seater variant as well. There are four variants in total offering both petrol and diesel engine options.

Also, Honda’s new 9-speed automatic transmission makes gear changes buttery-smooth and lightning-quick. There’s even an AWD model for the off-road enthusiasts. With all the bells and whistles, the new CR-V definitely impresses more customers than before, however, there are a bunch of alternatives available in the market in the similar price range that give a tough competition to the Honda. Any idea which SUVs are we talking about? Read on to know.

Nissan Terra

Nissan Terra is one of those SUVs that demand attention 24x7. It’s gigantic dimensions and aggressive design language make it a looker. Also, spotting it in your rearview mirror could be quite intimidating. Terra features Nissan’s V-Motion design language and flaunts its front fascia where there’s a lot of chrome. Since it’s a 7-seater, you wouldn’t need to worry about the cabin space, there’s plenty of it. Also, the interior is quite luxurious and it should be owing to the fact that the base model of Terra would cost you Php 1.5 million and the price goes all the way up to Php 2.1 million. As a whole, we’d say that the stuff onboard justifies the Nissan Terra price.

Nissan Terra

The Nissan Tera specs sheet reads a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 190 hp of maximum power and 450 Nm of peak torque. There is a 4x4 variant on offer as well, which is the top-end model. These figures are more than sufficient to take you both on- and off-road without a fuss. The Nissan Terra comes in five variants and seven color choices.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Mitsubishi’s new Dynamic Shield design philosophy is doing wonders for its products. The Montero Sport also comes with this new design and makes it a fantastic-looking SUV. And on top of that, you get a pair of LED projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. While the front end of the SUV would impress you, the rear end might not. It’s quite unique but we feel that Mitsubishi went overboard here.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport specs reveal that the SUV houses a 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel engine equipped with Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Electronic Control (MIVEC) system. It produces 181 PS at 3,500 rpm and 430 Nm of peak torque at 2,500 rpm. The presence of a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) also helps.

Two transmission options are available - a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic. The Mitsubishi Montero Sport price range starts at Php 1.5 million and ends at Php 1.89 million. The Japanese SUV is available in four variants. For the price it asks, the Montero Sport does provide a plethora of features.

Isuzu mu-X

The Isuzu mu-X might not be as attractive as the other aforementioned SUVs but it surely has got immense road presence thanks to its large dimensions. Isuzu has provided a long list of features here. We get bi-LED projector-type headlamps, integrated LED daytime running lights, rear combi lamp with LED positioning lamp, etc.

The interior on this seven-seater is quite comfortable and luxurious. Some of the highlighting features are soft-pad interior with piano black accents & blue ambient lighting, multiple USB charging ports with 12 V accessory socket, eight-inch audio-video entertainment with navigation, Wi-Fi display & USB Link, and a ten-inch roof-mounted DVD Monitor.

Isuzu mu-X

If you are buying an Isuzu, you must be aware of its off-road capabilities and that will be one of the major reasons of you buying it. The mu-X is no exception. It comes with 5-link coil spring suspension, Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC), six-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift, and much more.

The Isuzu mu-X specs say that the most powerful engine available with the SUV is a 3.0-litre four-cylinder in-line Blue Power diesel engine with turbo intercooler. It produces a maximum power of 175 bhp and a peak torque of 380 Nm. This mill is available with the 4x4 variant. As far as the price is concerned, the Isuzu mu-X price starts at Php 1.3 million.

These were some of the top alternatives to the Honda CR-V that you may consider before making your final decision. Which one did you like the best?
