Mitsubishi Motors PH to update Triton Athlete?

MANILA: Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) could be updating the range-topping variant of the Triton pickup truck soon. 

Such speculation came after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released homologation papers for the “Mitsubishi Triton Athlete 4WD AT (model year 2027).” 

The update may come in the form of cosmetic changes or even in terms of creature comfort and ride handling, as the current model year has the same dimensions as the supposed incoming model, which are: 

Overall length, width, height (in millimeters [mm>)	5,360 x 1,930 x 1,815
Overall wheelbase (in mm)	3,130
Overall ground clearance (in mm)	222

It also rides on 18-inch wheels with 265/60 tires. 

Likewise, the powertrain system does appear the same, with the said grade packing a 2,442 cubic-centimeter diesel engine that can go as fast as 180 kilometers per hour. 

MMPC is yet to announce any updates for the Triton Athlete 4WD AT trim, but if they are looking to launch an upgraded model, we think it could be at the 2026 Philippine International Motor Show, which is possible to be held in June.

New look

The Mitsubishi Triton gets a new look thanks to some black treatment, which aligns with the nameplate’s new “Born for the Grind” tagline. 

Its new, blacked-out appointments reinforce the pickup’s identity as a vehicle built not only for tough jobs, but also for the everyday hustle of Filipino drivers on city streets. 

“The introduction of black accents across the Triton lineup reflects strength and confidence — qualities that define both the truck and the people who drive it. Beyond aesthetics, these accents give the Triton a sharper and tougher vibe, reinforcing its readiness to take on any challenge on the road,” MMPC wrote in a press release. 

Here is what each existing variant (with the exception of the Athlele and GL) gets:

“While the new black accents enhance the Triton’s exterior appeal, they also reflect its core strength, which is the ability to endure and perform under pressure.
