'Modified' next-gen Toyota Tamaraw can be used as cop car

MANILA: The next-generation Toyota Tamaraw can be utilized as a capable utility vehicle for the police force.

This was proven by known car customizer Atoy Llave of Atoy Customs when he showcased a dressed-up version of the aforementioned model at the 124th Police Service Anniversary held at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Grandstand in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Presented to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and PNP Chief Police General Nicolas Torre III, the modified next-generation Toyota Tamaraw was based on the nameplate's long-wheelbase dropside version.

It can be recalled that back in 2023, the country’s chief executive announced that Toyota will revive the Tamaraw badging in the country. The following year, the workhorse was presented to him again at the Malacanang.

According to Llave, he outfitted the next-generation Toyota Tamaraw police car with the following components:

• Custom bubble top crew cab
• Extended roofing and additional partition (diamond screen) serving as additional cab
• Custom front grille design
• Three-millimeter (mm) push bar bumper
• Three-millimeter rear custom bumper
• Tow hitch with step board
• Concept One wheels wrapped in Falken all-terrain tires
• Dobinsons suspension
• Drone with airport
• Siren and blinkers
• Three-way dashboard camera recorder
• Laptop movable stick with military-grade laptop
• Long gun case
• Bullet-proof vest holder
• Customized seats
• 800-megawatt-radio
• Custom graphics design
• Bed cover
• Starlink
• Pillar cover

Even with all these alterations, the revised next-generation Toyota Tamaraw can still move as it is equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-four turbocharged diesel-fed engine. The one displayed at the event comes with a manual gearbox.

The aforementioned drivetrain has the capability peak churns of:

Maximum output (in horsepower)	148
Peak torque (in Newton-meters)	400

Earlier, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) expanded the Tamaraw by adding the three new variations (which are also based on the long wheelbase trim) such as:

• Wing Van
• Mobile Store
• Food Truck
