Toyota puts spotlight on prototype GR Yaris Morizo RR Edition at Tokyo Auto Salon 2026

MANILA: Toyota has unveiled the prototype of the GR Yaris Morizo RR at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2026.

The model's under-development prototype — created with Toyota Motor Corporation Chair Akio Toyoda (more known in the motorsport world as Morizo) — will be released in limited-run fashion in its home country and select European markets (100 units each).

Those who are interested in getting one will have to join the lottery applications via the TGR official smartphone application "GR app" in Japan.

The prototype is the result of the insights that Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) gained at the 2025 Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race wherein team driver Toyoda competed using the Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission-equipped No. 109 car. The said vehicle, TGR noted, logged more laps than what was expected amid the challenges that the course offered. After completing the race, credited the competing Toyota GR Yaris’ eight-speed automatic transmission that allowed him to do 15 laps.

Per Toyota, the GR Yaris Morizo RR is exceptional for its Nürburgring-cultivated delivery of car-driver unity for a high level of driver-vehicle interaction, its reliability and security, and its ability to make car-lovers smile and want to keep on driving it.

GR Yaris Morizo RR details

The Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR comes with a suspension configuration that lets the tires firmly follow even in uneven surfaces as well as a modified electric power steering system (EPS).

It also features an exclusive four-wheel-drive (4WD) control developed in close coordination with Morizo itself. This technology now has Morizo mode instead of Gravel in the standard option. This option sets the driving force distribution evenly for the front and rear.

Further, the Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR boasts a distinct carbon-fiber rear wing developed through competing in the Nürburgring 24 Hours, a front spoiler, side skirts, and a carbon-fiber hood.

Outside, the aforementioned version of the Toyota GR Yaris wears a "Gravel Khaki" (solely available in the said model) colorway, that matches the piano black" radiator grille, matte bronze wheels, and yellow brake calipers.

For its cabin, the Toyota GR Yaris Morizo RR is tailored with yellow stitching all around, suede-surfaced steering wheel, which has been given a slightly smaller-than-normal outer diameter and modified paddle shifters and steering-wheel-mounted switches for improved operability in motorsports.

Aside from that, the interior also has an exclusive serial-number plate with a "Morizo RR" logo.

Launched in the Philippines in mid 2021, the Toyota GR Yaris is powered by an in-line three-cylinder, double overhead cam, four-valve roller-rocker, turbocharged gasoline-fed engine (G16E-GTS). They come in either manual or automatic gearboxes.

The mill can dish out 276 horses and 390 Newton-meters of oomph.
