Will there be a Toyota Ertiga replacing the Avanza?
MANILA: In recent times, Toyota and Suzuki have come into a corporate partnership that enables the two Japanese automakers to share one’s technology and platforms with the other. However, the partnership does not end the fierce competition between the two and both the manufacturers will still continue to lock horns with each other in the automobile markets around the globe.
Talking about the partnership specifically, Toyota will benefit from Suzuki’s compact vehicle platform that underpins the likes of Ciaz and Ertiga. This will result in a brand new MPV developed by the two brands together. The new MPV could very well be the next-gen Ertiga and Avanza simultaneously.
Toyota will also get the Indian-made Baleno, Vitara, Ciaz, and Ertiga to sell in the African continent. On the other hand, Toyota will build the Vitara for the Indian market at its assembly site in the same country. Talking of Suzuki, the other Japanese automaker will benefit from Toyota’s Hybrid System and TNGA platform. Suzuki will go on to produce and launch electric vehicles which will be based on RAV4 and Corolla.
Suzuki Chairman Osamu Suzuki said, “At the time we announced our scope of cooperation in May last year, I spoke that we will strive for success globally. I have seen progress in the partnership since then, and it is my pleasure to be able to make this announcement today regarding the status of partnership on a global basis, including Europe and Africa. In addition, we appreciate the kind offer from Toyota to let us make use of their hybrid technology. We will continue our utmost efforts”.
Akio Toyoda, who is the president at Toyota said that the electrification of vehicles will get only bigger and better as it has already started to impact major markets around the globe. He went on to cite that while electric vehicles contribute to the Earth’s environment, the acceptance by customers is also a very important factor. With the partnership with Suzuki,
Toyota aims at increasing the use of hybrid tech, and that too not only in India and Europe but across the planet. The partnership shall also help both of us in becoming more competitive than ever before and the two companies should also learn new things from each other throughout the partnership, said Toyoda.
